Senate Democrats are fired up and fighting for Americans in Republicans’ historically secretive hearing to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Senate Republicans are holding his confirmation hearing today…
- In spite of Republicans releasing 42,000 records last night that could not possibly be reviewed before this morning’s hearing;
- Despite Republicans refusing to release 93% of Kavanaugh’s White House records;
- And in the face of the Trump administration’s unprecedented decision to withhold 100,000 pages of documents under the guise of executive privilege.
Senate Democrats have had enough. Take a look:
Senator Harris stands up and demands to end this unfair hearing. Senators Klobuchar and Blumenthal join to object to moving forward.
Senator Booker cuts to the chase: “What is the rush?”
Even the limited documents that Senate Republicans themselves requested have not all been turned over.
Senator Whitehouse doubles down: “The idea that any judge in the United States would go forward with a trial the day after a document dump like this is preposterous.”
Senator Leahy: “What are we trying to hide? Why are we rushing?”
Senator Coons: “We should not be proceeding until we have the full documents that allow us to review the judge’s records.”
Senator Feinstein: “Give us the time to do our work so that we can have a positive and comprehensive hearing on the man who may well be the deciding vote for many of America’s futures.”
