The Rev. Timothy Johnson, it he Oct. 19 issue of the Eden Prairie News, uses Harvey Weinstein as the poster boy to set up his opinion piece, “Weinstein is reminder of the need for morals.”
The Rev. Johnson discusses the moral matters he thinks one should ponder as a result of Weinstein’s “multitudinous sexual encounters with almost anyone he wanted to conquer … .”
Weinstein has admitted that he is “sick” and needs help. One can only hope our justice system finds its way to do that. It’s breathtaking that his alleged behavior could go on for so long and be accepted as a norm. The Rev. Johnson has given his readers a lot to think about.
Yes. Weinstein, according to multiple news reports and the testimony of his many victims, used his fame and money and his business to sexually prey upon women without fear of being held responsible for his behavior.
Many who knew him rationalized, “That’s just Harvey. That’s what he does.” Yes, Weinstein was a powerful man.
Yet, amind all the salacious details and eagerness to ready about famous actresses coming forward to accuse Weinstein, one might remember that if Harvey gets set “up the river,” there’s still one very large elephant remaining in the room.
Harvey was powerful. Yet, he wasn’t and isn’t the most powerful man in the world. That would be Donald Trump, president of the United States., the man this “Cristian” nation elected to be its moral compass. The game-show host with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The celebrity who boasted on the Access Hollywood bus that he’s so attracted to beautiful women that “I just start kissing them, I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. Grab them by the *****. You can do anything.”
The president of the United States who has threatened to sue all of teh 15 women who have dared come forward to accuse him of sexual misconduct and sexual harassment.
I agree completely with Rev. Johnson that this country may need to revisit its morals. The focus today is on Weinstein. I definitely would not allow my teenage daughter to be alone in a room with Weinstein. However, I also would not allow my teenage daughter to be alone in a room with Donald Trump.
