Twitter finds hundreds of accounts tied to Russian operatives

The following article by Elizabeth Dwoski, Adam Entous and Karoun Demirjian was posted on the Washington Post website September 28, 2017:

Facebook announced on Sept. 21 that it would turn over copies of 3,000 political ads brought by Russian accounts during the 2016 election, while Twitter said on Sept. 28 that it had shut down 201 accounts tied to the same group. (The Washington Post)

Twitter said Thursday it had shut down 201 accounts that were tied to the same Russian operatives who posted thousands of political ads on Facebook, but the effort frustrated lawmakers who said the problem is far broader than the company appeared to know.

The company said it also found three accounts from the news site RT — which Twitter linked to the Kremlin — that spent $274,100 in ads on its platform in 2016. Continue reading “Twitter finds hundreds of accounts tied to Russian operatives”

Equifax and Trump

The following article was posted on the TrumpAccountable.org website September 16, 2017:

As of September 16, 2017 Donald Trump has yet to tweet about the Equifax data breach or express outrage on behalf of the millions of Americans whose credit and identities could be vulnerable for decades.

As an English teacher for almost 20 years, I would suggest the following edits to a recent Trump tweet about an ESPN reporter:

Equifax

It could be that Trump is still stinging from a data breach reported at Trump hotels that compromised guest credit card numbers at 14 of its hotels this summer.

11 Times Congressman Ted Lieu Beat Donald Trump at His Own Twitter Game

NOTE:  Rep. Lieu is our keynote speaker at next month’s Jackie Stevenson dinner. Want to hear from him yourself? You can purchase your tickets here through 5:00 PM September 1, 2017.

The following article by Ryan General was posted on the Netshark.com website August 25, 2017:

Whether he’s bashing political rivals, the media, other heads of state or random celebrities, President Donald Trump uses Twitter to vent his anger, to the utter annoyance of many.

Quite fittingly, an Asian American congressman has been taking the POTUS to task via the microblogging site over the past few months.

When it comes to dishing it out to Trump in 140 characters or less, no one else comes close to Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu, who uses the platform to criticize Trump and his administration.

Everything Trump has ever tweeted about government shutdowns, in one post

The following article by Elise Viebeck was posted on the Washington Post website August 25, 2017:

President Trump has always been pretty cavalier about shutting down the government. Just go back a few years through his Twitter feed.

As a businessman, Trump provided almost daily commentary as the clock ticked toward the most recent shutdown, in 2013. When the government ultimately closed that year, on Oct. 1, Trump was a steady voice of support for Republicans, who sought to use the situation as leverage against the Affordable Care Act. He also played down the consequences of closing the government. “All essential services continue,” he wrote eight days before the shutdown in a tweet that earned all of 128 likes. “Don’t believe lies.” Continue reading “Everything Trump has ever tweeted about government shutdowns, in one post”

The curious case of ‘Nicole Mincey,’ the Trump fan who may actually be a Russian bot

The following article by Abby Phillip was posted on the Washington Post website August 7, 2017:

Early Saturday morning, President Trump tweeted his gratitude to a social-media super-fan, Nicole Mincey, magnifying her praise of him to his 35 million followers.

Here’s the problem: There is no evidence the Twitter feed belongs to someone named Nicole Mincey. And the account, according to experts, bears a lot of signs of a Russia-backed disinformation campaign.

On Sunday, Twitter suspended the Mincey account, known as @ProTrump45, after several other users revealed that it was probably a fake, created to amplify pro-Trump content. Continue reading “The curious case of ‘Nicole Mincey,’ the Trump fan who may actually be a Russian bot”

Trump’s itchy Twitter finger just triggered speculation about an indictment

With a tap of the thumb, President Trump on Friday invited speculation that he or a family member could be indicted by a federal grand jury whose existence was reported a day earlier by the Wall Street Journal.

The president retweeted a video clip from the “Fox & Friends” morning show, his favorite, in which the hosts and guest Jeanine Pirro — “Judge Jeanine” on Fox and a longtime Trump friend — cast an investigation of possible coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign, led by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, as a politically motivated witch hunt. Continue reading “Trump’s itchy Twitter finger just triggered speculation about an indictment”

What Trump got wrong on Twitter this week (#8)

The following article by Michelle Ye Hee Lee was posted on the Washington Post website April 21, 2017:

It’s been more than a month since our last roundup of what the president got wrong on Twitter in a given week, an occasional Friday series at The Fact Checker. President Trump has been tweeting less frequently, and his tweets have become more ceremonial — simply sharing photos or videos of memorable events or commemorating a holiday.

But in the past week, Trump tweeted misleading or false claims about several issues that were worth delving into. Here’s a look at what Trump got wrong in 10 tweets since last Friday. Continue reading “What Trump got wrong on Twitter this week (#8)”
