Over the weekend, President Donald Trump tapped out a series of angry Twitter posts attacking black athletes and celebrities. If that sounds familiar, that’s because it is. The president has gone after LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Jemele Hill, and countless others — all in the past few months.

Notice something? There’s no mistaking the fact that the subject of Trump’s ire are all prominent African Americans. It’s no coincidence that Trump makes a sport of attacking black celebrities, especially those who have been outspoken against his policies or behavior in office. People who approve of Trump do so *because* of his behavior in office, not despite it

Since it’s a poll in August 2017 about the presidency of Donald Trump, a new offering from the Pew Research Center includes plenty of bad news for him. Trump’s approval rating is at 36 percent, about where other polls have had it, and while Republicans generally side with his policy goals, most Americans do not.

But buried in the poll is a fascinating detail that helps explain a lot of what we’ve seen over Trump’s seven months in office. Those who think he’s doing a good job mostly think that because of his abnormal behavior, not despite it. Increasingly Large Majority of America Is on the Same Negative Page About Trump, Except for His Hardcore Republican Base

Voters who are standing by Donald Trump, led by three-quarters of Republicans, are a defiant but shrinking minority of a national electorate that increasingly sees Trump as a failing political and moral leader, and an untrustworthy and unstable individual.

That’s the takeaway from a national poll of 1,514 people by Quinnipiac University taken after Trump’s embrace of white supremacists and neo-Nazis in Charlottesville. The findings are a stunning indictment of a president who cannot readily be removed from office despite deep national misgivings. Declaration of Independence tweets confuse Donald Trump supporters

The Declaration of Independence has caused confusion on Twitter after some Donald Trump supporters appeared to interpret the text as an attack on the president.

In Congress, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,

America’s National Public Radio (NPR)faced a public backlash after sharing the famous document in a series of tweets to celebrate Independence Day.

A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

It’s an annual NPR tradition to read out the Declaration of Independence line-by-line on-air for the past 29 years, but their tweets were apparently misinterpreted by some.

One Twitter user mistakenly thought the federal funded station was calling for a political revolution against Mr Trump.

–That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends,

it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government,

“So, NPR is calling for a revolution. Interesting way to condone the violence while trying to sound ‘patriotic’. Your implications are clear,” wrote one.

Missing the Point?

To the Editor:

I think the 80 or so percent of Trump supporters who still support him and believe what he says miss the point of what the anti-Trump people are seeing. We see a sexual predator, perpetual liar, racist, arrested adolescent and crying man/baby. Our moral standards are way too high to support a person like that. We are astonished that a morally and intellectually bankrupt person is our president, put there by people who value ideology, power and party more than country and humanity. We believe in bravery, freedom and facts. The only fake news is what comes out of Trump’s tweets, mouth and the White House press office. I think we can now call it even between Hillary’s e-mails and Donny’s dump of intel into the Russians’ lap when we talk of mishandling of secrets, OK? Donny is a frightened little boy who is in way over his head, and the likes of Erik Paulsen seem to share his fear, depraved morality, greed and religious intolerance. Good luck with that in the next election.

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s proposal on Thursday for deep cuts to the budgets of a broad part of the federal bureaucracy was billed as a tough-minded and necessary corrective to the growth of the government’s power. But even members of his own party questioned some of the cuts — and what was not being cut.

The harshest criticism of Mr. Trump’s budget came from Democrats and liberal organizations. But in a city where many federal programs enjoy longstanding bipartisan support, some Republicans also assailed the president’s judgment.

Americans — especially but not exclusively Trump voters — believe crazy, wrong things

Many Americans believe a lot of dumb, crazy, destructive, provably wrong stuff. Lately this is especially (though not exclusively) true of Donald Trump voters, according to a new survey.

The survey, from the Economist/YouGov, was conducted in mid-December, and it finds that willingness to believe a given conspiracy theory is (surprise!) strongly related to whether that conspiracy theory supports one’s political preferences.
