President Donald Trump’s plans for a White House-backed military parade are beginning to take shape.

The president has directed the Department of Defense to organize a parade that would take place on Nov. 11 – Veterans Day – according to an unclassified Feb. 20 memo written by National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster.

The memo, which was summarized to POLITICO by a senior administration official, was sent from McMaster to Secretary of Defense James Mattis. Trump’s military parade would cost between $10 million and $30 million, White House budget director Mick Mulvaney said on Wednesday.

Mulvaney offered the estimate during questioning at the House Budget Committee. He said the White House hasn’t yet budgeted for the parade and would either rely on Congress to appropriate funds or use money that already has been approved. The White House has spent the better part of the past 24 hours arguing that President Trump didn’t actually mean things he said: that he didn’t actually want a government shutdown and that he was just joking about that whole Democrats-who-didn’t-applaud-me-committed-treason thing.

‘Dear Leader’ Trump Gets Brutally Mocked On Twitter Over Military Parade Plan

The following article by Ed Mazza was posted on the Huffington Post website February 7, 2018:

“If he wanted to take part in a military parade, maybe he shouldn’t have dodged the draft.”

President Donald Trump reportedly wants a big military parade in Washington.

“The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France,” a military official told The Washington Post. “This is being worked at the highest levels of the military.”

On social media, some are comparing Trump’s plans to tout the nation’s arsenal not to the Bastille Day celebration the president saw in Paris last year but rather the massive displays of weaponry seen in North Korea and Moscow, among other places.
