Fallen cop’s Trump-loving partner ready to go to war with Mitch McConnell and Republicans for protecting Trump

Raw Story Logo

Sandra Garza, the partner of fallen Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick spoke to CNN Tuesday about her loss and the anger she has around the attack on the U.S. Capitol that led to his death.

Both she and Sicknick were avid Trump supporters, but in wake of the attack, things have changed.

“I know you are a supporter because you believed in ‘blue lives matter’ and you believed in the former president’s defense in law enforcement,” said CNN’s Erin Burnett. “Why do you think this report does not look at Trump’s role in what happened that day?” Continue reading.

Fox News staff leaked to CNN host how ‘distraught’ they are network keeps covering up the Jan. 6 attack

Raw Story Logo

CNN host Brian Stelter told Jake Tapper on Tuesday that he had to nearly rewrite his book Hoax: Donald Trump, Fox News and the Dangerous Distortion of Truth for the paperback version because so much has happened since it was first published in hardback.

He explained that about a dozen Fox News staffers came to him privately to say that they were “distraught” over the network’s downplaying of the attack on the U.S. Capitol. More recently, the liberal group Meidas Touch gave Fox News just under $200,000 to run an ad with statements from Capitol and D.C. police officers about what they experienced on that day. Fox refused to run the ad, effectively canceling the police officers they purport to support.

The Fox staffers told Stelter that their network has “looked the other way and made excuses for the rioters.” However, he explained, those staffers leaking aren’t in the majority. “Riot denial has won out at Fox and today, the network has barely covered this new Senate report and they have stuffed this down the rabbit hole.” Continue reading.

Mo Brooks Erupts When Served In Capitol Riot Lawsuit

National Memo logo

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) appears to be up in arms after he was finally served a lawsuit from California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell, who is accusing Brooks of helping incite the violent insurrection at the Capitol on January 6 and is seeking damages from Brooks for his conduct.

Brooks was one of the leaders of the effort to try to block congressional certification of President Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory last January 6. And he spoke at a rally that preceded the insurrection, telling the Donald Trump-supporting crowd that eventually stormed the Capitol that “American patriots” should “start taking down names and kicking ass.”

On March 5, Swalwell sued Brooks — along with Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani — whom he accused of being responsible for the attack by launching “a campaign of lies and incendiary rhetoric [that] led to the sacking of the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.” Continue reading.

10 Emerging GOP Lies About The U.S. Capitol Riot Shredded On MSNBC

Huff Post logo

The latest Republican spin on the Jan. 6 insurrection got firmly fact-checked by “The Beat” anchor Ari Melber.

MSNBC’s Ari Melber on Monday pointed out how “more and more” Republicans are embracing lies about the U.S. Capitol riot by pretending the violence wasn’t that bad or trying to cast blame away from former President Donald Trump for starting it.

“The Beat” anchor then swiftly shredded 10 emerging falsehoods — by playing audio of outlandish GOP claims alongside footage of the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection incited by Trump and his election lies.

“There are signs of (how) blatantly rejecting the evidence of your eyes and ears has become a litmus test for some hard-right figures,” said Melber. “This matters for truth and justice and how these lies spread matters for our future as a country.” Continue reading.

New report highlights severe intelligence failures on Jan. 6

The Hill logo

Senate investigators have outlined a spectacular series of intelligence and communication failures leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in a new report that paints the picture of a horrific scene that left lawmakers and staff scrambling for safety.

The 127-page report, which includes a transcript of former President Trump’s speech to rallygoers, is the first full congressional committee review of the deadly attack on Congress as it moved to certify President Biden’s election victory.

It pieces together multiple warnings of violence that were poorly circulated and largely went unheeded by top leaders in several agencies. That left Capitol Police forces unprepared for clashes with hundreds of protesters outside and inside the building. Continue reading.

Eric Swalwell forced to hire private investigators because Rep. Mo Brooks is so scared of his subpoena

Raw Story Logo

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) is so terrified of the lawsuit by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) that he has been hiding from process servers for almost a month, just to avoid being subpoenaed.

Brooks was among many Republicans who spoke at the Jan. 6 “Stop the Steal” rally that led to the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

“Today is the day American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass,” proclaimed Brooks moments ahead of the crowd attacking Capitol Police and D.C. Metro cops. Brooks is even bragging about his involvement in the Jan. 6 attacks, using it in several Facebook ads for his campaign. But when asked to stand up for his speech and defend his involvement, Brooks is running scared and hiding. Continue reading.

‘Striking, horrific and brutal’: Reporter details disturbing accusations against a 1/6 rioter in new filing

AlterNet Logo

Pennsylvania resident Ryan Samsel is among the many people facing federal criminal charges in connection with the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol Building. Scott MacFarlane, a reporter for WRC-TV Channel 4 (the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C.) who is also an MSNBC contributor, discusses Samsel in a Twitter thread posted this week — and lays out some reasons why his case is especially troubling.

MacFarlane tweets, “WHOA!!! The filing just submitted in the Jan 6 prosecution of Ryan Samsel of Pennsylvania might” include “the most striking, horrific and brutal accusations I’ve read so far in *any* of these 460+ cases.”

MacFarlane reports that last week, Samsel asked to be released from the Washington, D.C. jail where he is being held, “citing injuries he allegedly suffered in (a) beating there.” Continue reading.

‘You lied to them!’: Nicolle Wallace blasts Texas Republican who said voters believe in fraud so suppression is needed

Raw Story Logo

Over the weekend, Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) proclaimed to CNN’s Jake Tapper that even though there wasn’t any actual voter fraud, that Texas should pass the voter suppression bills to make people feel better. MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace shouted through her television at him saying that it was he and Republicans like him who created the insecurity they now cite a need to fix.

“I think the intent, and I’m not in the state legislature, is to restore confidence in the elections that fraud isn’t taking place,” McCaul told Tapper. “Now, you make a good point, and I’m a federal prosecutor and in a court of law, that hasn’t really been born to bear. This may be more of an optics issue, restoring confidence with the American people. In my state, they actually do believe there was tremendous fraud.”

“They believe it because you all lied to them!” Wallace proclaimed. Continue reading.

‘A spit in the face’: Partner of fallen Capitol Police officer slams GOP lawmakers who blocked Jan. 6 commission

AlterNet Logo

The partner of fallen U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick is speaking out to express her frustration with Republican lawmakers who voted against the establishment of a commission to investigate the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.

According to CBS News, Sicknick’s mother arrived on Capitol Hill last week with his former partner Sandra Garza. The two women hoped to lobby lawmakers to vote in favor of the Jan. 6 commission. However, her plea fell on deaf ears as Republican lawmakers ultimately blocked the measure.

Following the unfavorable vote, Garza sounded off with her opinion of their “dereliction of duty.” Continue reading.

With anti-election crusade, Trump reportedly has an endgame in mind

MSNBC Logo

Trump has reportedly told associates he hopes to be “reinstated” to the presidency by August. This entire line of thought is stark raving mad.

It was unsettling to see former White House National Security Advisor Michael Flynn appear at a right-wing gathering over the weekend and endorse a military coup in the United States. Asked about Myanmar’s coup, the retired Army general specifically said, “I mean it, it should happen here.”

But a day earlier, attorney Sidney Powell appeared at the same event, and as the Washington Examiner noted, she went down a similarly outlandish path.

Attorney Sidney Powell, who is being sued by Dominion Voting Systems for spreading allegedly defamatory claims about the 2020 election, insisted on Saturday former President Donald Trump could “simply be reinstated” as president and fill the rest of President Joe Biden’s term.

To the delight of attendees, Powell specifically declared, “It should be that [Trump] can simply be reinstated, that a new inauguration date is set.” Continue reading.
