Trump has a massive conflict of interest in China — yet another reason he might have ignored China’s mismanagement of the coronavirus crisis. Instead, he spent weeks and weeks offering absurd flattery of President Xi and unwarranted praise for China’s “transparency.”
TRUMP:
CNN: “But as the virus spread rapidly across China in the month of February, Trump repeatedly praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s response to the crisis, saying he’s handled it ‘really well’ and that he was doing ‘a very good job with a very, very tough situation.’”
ALSO TRUMP:
Politico: “But Trump himself is tens of millions of dollars in debt to China: In 2012, his real estate partner refinanced one of Trump’s most prized New York buildings for almost $1 billion. The debt includes $211 million from the state-owned Bank of China — its first loan of this kind in the U.S. — which matures in the middle of what could be Trump’s second term, financial records show.”
