Trump Promised To Bring Back Manufacturing & Protect Steel — Both Are In Decline

Trump promised to bring back manufacturing and protect the steel industry. Instead, the manufacturing sector is in recession, and the steel industry was just downgraded to a negative outlook. Despite his empty promises, Trump’s reckless policies are failing working Americans.

The manufacturing sector is in recession, according to multiple measures, and is expected to further slow.

Wall Street Journal: “U.S. manufacturing is in recession, two-thirds of economic forecasters said in a survey, and overall growth in the second half of 2019 is expected to further slow. In a Wall Street Journal economic survey conducted in recent days, 65.3% of private-sector forecasters said the manufacturing sector was in recession, or two or more consecutive quarters of contraction.” Continue reading “Trump Promised To Bring Back Manufacturing & Protect Steel — Both Are In Decline”

Minnesota DFL on Trump Rally in Minneapolis

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Ahead of Donald Trump’s MAGA rally today in Minneapolis, Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Instead of addressing rising prescription drug costs or stagnant wages, protecting Medicare, or keeping jobs in Minnesota, Trump is coming to our state after spending the week attacking our hardworking public servants and facing scandals on every front. We already know he has broken his promise to the people in our state to work for them – Minnesotans recognize a scam when we see one.

“Rather than give oxygen to the incomprehensible lies he’ll undoubtedly spew, DFLers will be spending the day talking to voters and canvassing in neighborhoods across the state. Donald Trump’s agenda of broken promises will yet again lead him to lose Minnesota and bring down his Republican enablers along the way.”  Continue reading “Minnesota DFL on Trump Rally in Minneapolis”

DFL Statement on Trump’s 2020 Campaign Kickoff

“Donald Trump has broken his biggest promises to voters across America.”

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign kickoff:

“No amount of campaign rallies can change the fact that Donald Trump has broken his biggest promises to voters across America. In 2016, Donald Trump promised fairer tax laws, better trade deals and cheaper health care. His record as President consists of a tax plan that stiffs workers, a trade war that hurts farmers and a health care proposal that would have immiserated countless families and stripped away protections for preexisting conditions.

“Minnesotans won’t stand for another four years of the rich getting richer while everyone else continues to fall behind, and that’s all we’ll get from Donald Trump. The Minnesota DFL will continue organizing and campaigning hard every day to make Trump a one-term president.”

Trump Broke His Promises To 1,300 More Autoworkers

Trump promised voters in Warren, Michigan that they wouldn’t lose their manufacturing plants if he was elected and that General Motors would create new jobs in the United States because of him. Today, General Motors confirmed it plans to lay off over 1,000 workers at their Warren, Michigan facility.

THEN: Trump promised voters in Warren, Michigan they “won’t lose one plant” if he was elected, and said that GM would expand jobs in the U.S. because of him.

Trump in Warren, Michigan: “If I’m elected, you won’t lose one plant, you’ll have plants coming into this country, you’re going to have jobs again, you won’t lose one plant, I promise you that.”

Trump: “Just today—breaking news—General Motors announced that they’re adding or keeping 900 jobs right here in Michigan, and that’s going to be over the next 12 months. And that’s just the beginning, folks. […] We’re going to have a lot more. They’re going to be building new plants, expanding their plants.”

Trump: “You see what’s going on with the car companies. You ought to call Ford. Call Mr. Fields, the head of Ford. Call Mary Barra, head of General Motors. You could call Fiat. You know, you could call Fiat. You could call — we had that meeting. They’re all talking about building in the United States because of me.”

NOW: General Motors is cutting over 4,000 jobs, including nearly 1,300  jobs at their Warren, Michigan plant alone — the most of any facility.

Detroit News: “General Motors Co.’s salaried job cuts will include the elimination of 1,298 jobs at the Warren Technical Center, according to a filing with the state of Michigan. With those jobs eliminated, the Tech Center will see the most cuts of any GM facility as the company continues a weeks-long process of cutting more than 4,000 salaried jobs.”

Champion of the ‘Little Guy’? Trump’s Actions Tell Another Story

The following article by Michael Tackett and Jim Tankersley was psoted on the New York Times website December 17, 2017:

WASHINGTON — President Trump rarely misses a chance to offer himself up as the champion of “forgotten” Americans, men and women who feel ignored or derided by elites and believe, as he frequently says, that the “system is rigged” against them.

“You will never be ignored again,” he said this month at a campaign-style rally in Pensacola, Fla., a phrase that became the banner headline the next morning in the local newspaper. Continue reading “Champion of the ‘Little Guy’? Trump’s Actions Tell Another Story”

Is Trump Planning to Distract from His Tax Bill by Causing a Government Shutdown?

In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 2, Senate leadership rammed through its tax bill, the final version of which had been drafted just a few hours earlier, on a party-line vote. The bill was a plutocrat’s dream: massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations paid for by increases in middle-class taxes and cuts to middle-class health care. But now, concerned about the backlash from his core supporters—who will bear the brunt of these toxic changes—President Donald Trump may be looking to win back favor by breaking his promise to Dreamers and shutting down the government.

The tax bill funds giveaways to donors by raising taxes on the middle class

The Senate tax bill, like its counterpart in the House, is an effort to fulfill conservatives’ promises to their donors. It provides massive tax cuts for corporations, the wealthy, and all types of special interests. Just hours before the bill passed, as sweetheart deals were handed out to lobbyists and special interests behind closed doors, the language was modified to provide an even bigger tax break to Trump, achieved by lowering the special tax rate paid by the pass-through entities that he uses.
