More white evangelicals believe Stormy Daniels, and that could have some long-term implications

No other demographic group supports President Trump more than white evangelicals.

Nearly 8 in 10 white evangelical Protestants approve of Trump’s job performance, according to a survey by the Pew Research Center.

While sex scandals, from allegations of sexual assault to consensual affairs, continue to plague this presidency, a significant drop in support from white evangelicals is not likely to happen. Trump’s silence on Stormy Daniels is deafening

The following article by Aaron Blake was posted on the Washington Post website March 26, 2018:

As Stormy Daniels continues to speak out about her alleged affair with President Trump, he is staying largely silent. (Jenny Starrs/The Washington Post)

Despite the hype, Stormy Daniels’s big “60 Minutes” interview didn’t add much to the conversation. Much of the interview rehashed things she had already disclosed in that 2011 interview with InTouch magazine. The newsiest bits were a couple of times when she claimed to have been threatened by people she couldn’t identify.

But now that Daniels is talking publicly about the affair, it reinforces one central and entirely conspicuous fact about this entire situation: Trump isn’t. And neither, really, is the White House. Continue reading “Trump’s silence on Stormy Daniels is deafening”

Why The Stormy Daniels Case Matters

The following article by David Cay Johnston was posted on the DCReports.org website March 9, 2018:

Important national security, political and other issues are embedded in the lawsuit that a porn actress filed against the president this week. Treating it as mere entertainment would be a serious mistake.

Further, the inept and dishonest way the White House and Trump’s personal lawyer have handled the matter underlines the many facts that establish this administration is a kakistocracy, a government of the venal, the corrupt and the incompetent. Instead of the best and the brightest, the Trump administration draws on the worst and the dullest.

The porn star Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is just one of many people who know dark secrets about Trump. Like Clifford, these people have solid evidence—photographs, text messages, outtakes from Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice and other evidence. The secrets Clifford knows are for sure not the darkest. New evidence the Stormy Daniels payment may have violated election law

This article has been updated.

One short, newly revealed email from a Manhattan banker just made it much more likely that the $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 election violated federal law.

NBC News on Friday reported that Michael Cohen, President Trump’s longtime ally and attorney, had used a Trump Organization email address as he worked to secure the payment to Daniels. Daniels alleges the money was paid to keep her from telling the media about a sexual relationship she had with Trump; Cohen and Trump continue to deny that relationship. Trump Lawyer Obtained Restraining Order to Silence Stormy Daniels

President Trump’s lawyer secretly obtained a temporary restraining order last week to prevent a pornographic film star from speaking out about her alleged affair with Mr. Trump, according to legal documents and interviews.

(Read the restraining order.)

The order, issued by an arbitrator in California and reviewed by The New York Times, pertained to the actress Stephanie Clifford, who had been paid $130,000 shortly before the 2016 election in what she calls a “hush agreement.” In recent weeks, she had prepared to speak publiclyabout Mr. Trump, claiming his lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, had broken the agreement. Continue reading “Trump Lawyer Obtained Restraining Order to Silence Stormy Daniels”

Porn actress Stormy Daniels sues Trump, says hush agreement is null because he didn’t sign it

Stormy Daniels, the porn star who says she was paid to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Donald Trump, sued the president Tuesday, asking the court to declare that her nondisclosure agreement before the 2016 election is void because Trump did not sign it.

In the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Daniels — whose real name is Stephanie Clifford — said she had wanted to go public with the story of her alleged decade-old affair with Trump in the weeks leading up to the election. The lawsuit was first reported by NBC News. Continue reading “Porn actress Stormy Daniels sues Trump, says hush agreement is null because he didn’t sign it”

Stormy Daniels’s tale gains renewed momentum with Trump lawyer’s claim

The tabloid tale of money paid to an adult-film star to keep quiet about an alleged affair in 2006 with President Trump gained renewed momentum Wednesday after Trump’s longtime personal attorney said he paid a six-figure settlement to the actress, and her representative said she now felt free to tell her story.

If Trump and others had hoped the story might die down, the admission by attorney Michael Cohen that he “facilitated” a payment of $130,000 to Stormy Daniels at the height of the 2016 presidential campaign assured that the drama would continue to play out for weeks to come. Longtime Trump attorney says he made $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels with his money

A longtime personal attorney for President Trump said Tuesday that he paid $130,000 to an adult-film star who had told people she had an affair with Trump a decade before he won the presidency.

Michael Cohen, who had previously dismissed reports about the payment, said he paid Stormy Daniels — whose real name is Stephanie Clifford — using his own money, rather than involving the Trump Organization or the Trump presidential campaign. His comments came after a watchdog group argued that the payout should be viewed as an unreported campaign expense, which Cohen denied. Stormy Daniels to Jimmy Kimmel: It ‘doesn’t look like my signature’ on Trump statement

Anticipation had been building for the interview that porn star Stormy Daniels was set to give late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday night following President Trump’s State of the Union speech.

And then just a few hours before it hit the airwaves came a curveball: Daniels, who in 2011 gave an interview in which she claimed (in lurid detail) to have had an affair with Trump, apparently issued a statement saying she hadn’t had such a relationship, after all. “The fact of the matter is that each party to this alleged affair denied its existence in 2006, 2011, 2016, 2017 and now again in 2018,” the statement read. “I am not denying the affair because I was paid ‘hush money’ as has been reported in overseas owned tabloids. I am denying this affair because it never happened.” Continue reading “Stormy Daniels to Jimmy Kimmel: It ‘doesn’t look like my signature’ on Trump statement”

A porn star had a racy tale about Trump. Why are we only learning about it now?

The following article by Paul Farhi was posted on the Washington Post website January 17, 2018:

Here is what we know about the allegation that an adult-film star reportedly was paid to remain silent about a sexual relationship with Donald Trump.

Several journalists surely knew who Stormy Daniels was in 2016, and it probably wasn’t because they’d seen her in one of the many porn films she’d made.

The adult-film actress was on the radar of a number of mainstream news outlets in the waning days of the presidential campaign. Reporters from ABC, Fox News, the Daily Beast and Slate.com were pursuing a potentially explosive story: that Daniels had allegedly had an affair with Donald Trump in 2006, only months after Trump’s wife, Melania, had given birth to their son, Barron.
