Back in June 2017, conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh spent many minutes on his radio show extolling Alan Dershowitz, the renowned defense lawyer and Harvard Law School professor, for taking “100 percent Trumpist” positions on the Trump administration’s legal tangles.

Republican lawmakers continue attacks on FBI to delegitimize the Russia investigation

A handful of Republican lawmakers have embarked on an effort to discredit the top federal law enforcement agency, charging the FBI with bias as it investigates President Donald Trump and his campaign’s alleged ties to Russia.

On Tuesday, Rep. Francis Rooney (R-Fla.) became the latest Republican member of Congress to attack the Department of Justice and the FBI, charging both with bias against Trump.

“I would like to see the directors of those agencies purge it and say look, we’ve got a lot of great agents, a lot of great lawyers here, those are the people that I want the American people to see and know that good work’s being done, not these people who are kind of the deep state,” Rooney said Tuesday on MSNBC. Former Justice Dept. official joins special counsel Russia probe: report

Special counsel Robert Mueller has hired yet another high-profile prosecutor for the ongoing investigation into potential ties between President Trump’s campaign and Russia, according to a new report.

Politico reports Kyle Freeny, a former Department of Justice lawyer who specializes in money laundering, has joined Mueller’s team. She was reportedly present during the grand jury testimony on Friday from a spokesman of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort.

Freeny was previously working on a DOJ case in their Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative, part of the DOJ’s Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section, which aims to reclaim money from foreign corruption. A friend of Donald Trump on Monday raised the politically explosive possibility that the president could take action to fire Robert S. Mueller III, the recently appointed special counsel tasked with looking into Russian meddling in last year’s election and potential collusion with the Trump campaign.
