Pence Claims Credit For Defeating ISIS On Same Day ISIS Kills U.S. Troops

Yesterday, on the same day ISIS claimed credit for an attack that killed U.S. troops in Syria, Pence once again claimed the Trump administration had defeated ISIS. This administration’s distortion of reality is dangerous.

Today, ISIS claimed credit for an attack that killed U.S. troops in Syria.

CNN: “ISIS has claimed responsibility for a deadly explosion that killed US service members in the Syrian city of Manbij on Wednesday.”

Hours later, Pence once again claimed credit for defeating ISIS.

Pence: “The caliphate has crumbled, and ISIS has been defeated.”

Despite being told by military leaders on the ground in Syria that ISIS was not entirely defeated, Trump and his administration continues to lie to the American people.

CNN: “During his surprise visit to Iraq on December 26, Trump was warned by military commanders that — despite his claims — ISIS was not entirely defeated in Syria.”

FACT CHECK: Pence Lies On Trump’s Behalf

Vice President Mike Pence took to the airwaves yesterday morning to lie on Trump’s behalf and perpetuate his manufactured crisis at the border. Here’s the truth:

Pence was unable to support Trump’s blatant lie that past presidents had told him they should have built a border wall after all four living presidents denied it.

NBC’s Jackson: “Which former presidents told President Trump, as he said, that he should have built a wall? All of their representatives have denied that that was the case.”

Pence: “Well, I know the president has said that that was his impression from previous administrations, previous presidents. I know I’ve seen clips of previous presidents talking about the importance of border security and talking about the issue of illegal immigration.”

Pence cited a debunked stat about suspected terrorists attempting to enter the United States to try to misleadingly justify a wall at the southern border.

Pence: “Nearly 4,000 known or suspected terrorists were apprehended attempting to come into the United States through various means in the last year.”

CNN: “That number, however, is deeply misleading as justification for a wall on the southern border. According to a senior administration official familiar with Customs and Border Protection data, just 12 of those were encountered on the southern border between October 2017 and October 2018.”

Pence misleadingly claimed that a border wall would stop drugs coming in from Mexico.

Pence: “90% of all the heroin that comes into this country that claims the lives of 300 Americans every week comes through our southern border.”

CNN: “According to the latest Drug Enforcement Administration threat assessment report, the majority of heroin that enters the US does come through Mexico, but via legal ports of entry.”

FactCheck.org: “But experts, including those within his own administration, say the vast majority of the illegal heroin enters the U.S. through legal ports of entry.”

Pence brushed off criticism of the administration’s repeated lies about immigration, saying Americans “aren’t as concerned” about that.

ABC’s Karl: “How can the American people trust the president when he says this is a crisis, when he says things over and over again that aren’t true?”

Pence: “The American people aren’t as concerned about the political debate as they are about what’s really happening at the border.”

Hallie Jackson: “In That Interview, The Vice President Repeated That Claim That Has Been Debunked As Misleading About The Number Of Suspected Terrorists Or Immigrants Coming Across The Southern Border.” [Today, NBC, 1/8/19; VIDEO]

Joe Scarborough: “Willie, From Six To Thousands. Mike Pence, The Vice President, Lying To The Government Again. You Have The Head Of The Department Of The Homeland Security Lying About Thousands, The President Of The United States Lying About Thousands.” JOE SCARBOROUGH: “Willie, from six to thousands. Mike pence, the vice president, lying to the government again. You have the head of the department of the homeland security lying about thousands, the president of the united States lying about thousands, you have Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the president’s spokesperson, lying about it. And they’re all doing this, just like that they lied about the caravan and the gang members flooding across the southern border, all to justify this government shutdown and to justify the president going on tonight, making up an emergency so he can build his wall along the southern border? It’s outrageous.” [Morning Joe, MSNBC, 1/8/19; VIDEO]

Willie Geist: “We’ve Heard From The President, Vice President, Homeland Security, Sarah Sanders All On TV As Terrorists Are Streaming Across The Southern Border And If We Don’t Build A Wall, That Are Going To Come To America And Kill Us. That Is Not Happening.” WILLIE GEIST: “It is, Joe. And the quote yesterday, there’s a humanitarian and national security crisis on our southern border. Let’s be as clear as we possibly can be. There is no national security crisis at the border. Richard Haas, what you have here, the argument distilled down, we’ve heard from the president, vice president, homeland security, Sarah Sanders all on TV as terrorists are streaming across the southern border and if we don’t build a wall, that are going to come to America and kill us. That is not happening. The numbers bear it out, the evidence bears it out and this is all so president trump can deliver on chants he initiate during his rallies ‘build that wall’ during his presidential campaign. It’s theater and a show tonight.” [Morning Joe, MSNBC, 1/8/19; VIDEO]

Rep. Erik Paulsen is a Bought and Sold Politician

Paulsen’s Campaign Fueled by Special Interests, Votes Their Way

Erik Paulsen is the 6th highest recipient of PAC money in Congress — and his record in Washington aligns with lining their pockets. Paulsen voted for the GOP Tax Scam that gives more than 80% of its benefits to the wealthiest 1% of Americans and a huge handout to large corporations. And because of how the tax scam blew up the deficit, it gives Erik Paulsen and Washington Republicans an opening to revisit their favorite topic: cutting Social Security and Medicare.

Like so many other suburban districts across the country, gun safety has been top of mind for Minnesotans. And while Minnesota students and teachers have called on Paulsen to take action on gun safety measures, he’s been in thepocket of the gun lobby. Paulsen has voted 21 times against legislation to prevent people on the terrorist watch list from buying a gun and opposed efforts to deny guns to individuals deemed mentally incompetent. Trump’s ‘space force’ looks like it was a campaign swag scam all along

The following article by Oliver Willis was posted on the ShareBlue.com website August 10, 2018:

The Trump administration is pushing its ‘space force’ idea while the Trump campaign is pushing ‘space force’ swag. It sure looks like making money was the entire point all along.

Evidence is mounting that the White House rollout of a so-called “space force” is simply a way for Trump’s re-election campaign to rake in more cash.

The Pentagon has shown little to no intention of indulging Trump’s fantasies of a new, space-oriented branch of the U.S. military on par with the other five branches of the armed services.

But within one hour of Mike Pence’s speech at the Pentagon Thursday about the supposed “space force,” the Trump campaign sent an email urging supporters to pick a logo for campaign gear.

Space Farce? The Challenges of Creating a New Military Department in Just 2 Years: Podcast

The following article by Patrick B. Pexton and Andrew Clevenger was posted on the Roll Call website August 10, 2018:

Space is the “next battlefield,” Vice President Mike Pence said this week. CQ editor Patrick B. Pexton talks with reporter Andrew Clevenger about all the steps needed to create the Space Force. The biggest challenge? A just-passed, two-year defense authorization bill that’s on the president’s desk awaiting his signature. That bill has no extra funds for such an ambitious enterprise that critics say isn’t even necessary to protect the U.S. from space-based threats.

Speaking alongside Defense Secretary James Mattis at the Pentagon Thursday, Vice President Pence announced that “establishing the Space Force is an idea whose time has come.”

The big picture: The Vice President explained the Pentagon has begun the process of establishing Space Force as a 6th branch of the U.S. military by 2020, beginning with the establishment of a new combatant command overseen by a four-star general. However, only Congress has the power to establish a new branch of the military.

Has the Trump administration repealed 22 regulations for each new one?

The following article by Glenn Kessler was posted on the Washington Post website August 3, 2018:

President Trump has taken on the regulatory state, but his team overstates his success with fishy numbers. (Meg Kelly/The Washington Post)

This president has actually repealed 22 federal regulations for every new federal rule put on the books. He’s repealed more federal regulations than any president in American history. It’s true.”
—Vice President Pence, remarks in St. Louis, July 19, 2018

“We’ve gotten rid of more regulations than any president in the history of the United States. And that’s done in less than two years.”
—President Trump, remarks during a rally in Tampa, July 31, 2018

One of the Trump administration’s favorite talking points has been that the president has repealed more federal regulations than any president in history. Another favorite is that the president has repealed 22 federal regulations for every new regulation placed on the books. This supposedly exceeds a campaign promise to repeal two regulations for every one implemented.

Pence: Press freedom is great, until reporters do something we don’t like

The following article by Tommy Christopher was posted on the ShareBlue.com website July 29, 2018:

Pence claimed he and Trump ‘stand for’ freedom of the press — then immediately contradicted himself.

Mike Pence added insult to injury when he claimed that he and Trump’s administration are big believers in freedom of the press — and then immediately defended Trump’s decision to ban a CNN reporter from covering an event.

On this week’s edition of Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” even host and pro-Trump zealot Maria Bartiromo seemed disgusted with Pence over the administration’s decision to bar CNN’s Kaitlan Collins from a White House event last week just because she asked questions at the end of another event.

“Was it necessary to throw out Kaitlin Collins from CNN the other day?” Bartiromo asked Pence in an interview. “What happened?”
