As a House select committee begins its investigation into the Capitol insurrection, a new ad from the conservative Lincoln Project targets corporations and CEOs who allegedly “helped financed the very structure that led to the murderous violence on Jan. 6.”

“Who funds the politicians trying to cover up the assault on America’s Capitol?” the ad’s narrator asks, following a clip of former president Donald Trump falsely claiming that insurrectionists were “hugging and kissing the police.”

The answer, according to the ad, includes “leaders of the most respected and successful companies in America,” such as Koch Industries, Cigna, AT&T, and R.J. Reynolds. Continue reading.

‘Loser’ Trump needled by Lincoln Project in brutal new ad highlighting Tom Brady snub

Raw Story Logo

On Friday, the anti-GOP conservative group the Lincoln Project launched a new online ad mocking former President Donald Trump over NFL star Tom Brady’s refusal to associate with him.

“Tom Brady, great, great friend of mine,” said Trump in the opening of the clip. “Unbelievable winner.”

“Part of being a winner is knowing when enough is enough,” said the narrator, echoing a former quote from Trump himself. “You know, winners just like being around other winners. Not just to talk about how great winning is, because it is great. But to make fun of the losers. Locker room talk. Perfect example? Tom Brady.” The ad then cut to Brady making fun of Trump’s election loss at the White House with President Joe Biden. Continue reading.

Lincoln Project’s Steve Schmidt: Trump’s ‘fascist’ movement ‘must be crushed’ and ‘annihilated’

AlterNet logo

Although the Lincoln Project’s Steve Schmidt is decidedly conservative, the former Republican strategist has found himself siding with liberals and conservatives when it comes to denouncing Trumpism as an existential threat to democracy in the United States. And when Schmidt appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on January 15, he stressed that the U.S. is at a crossroads and must choose constitutional democracy over fascism and authoritarianism.

Schmidt’s comments came at a time when millions of Americans are still in shock over the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol Building and Washington, D.C. is on high alert in the days leading up to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden — who Schmidt and others in the Lincoln Project, a right-wing Never Trump group, supported in 2020’s presidential election. Schmidt praised Rep. Liz Cheney, a right-wing Republican and the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, for supporting the impeachment of President Donald Trump and slammed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy as a coward for lacking the courage to thoroughly repudiate Trumpism.

“Before we can talk about reconciliation, we have to talk about accountability,” Schmidt told “Morning Joe” hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough — a former GOP congressman and fellow Never Trump conservative. Scarborough has described Trump as a “fascist” many times, and Schmidt wholeheartedly agrees with that description of the outgoing president. Continue reading.

Former RNC chair Michael Steele joins anti-Trump group

Former chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele is joining the Lincoln Project, a group of Republicans working to prevent President Donald Trump’s re-election.

“Today is the day where things should matter and you need to take stock of what matters to you — and the kind of leader you want to lead in these moments. And for me, it ain’t him,”

Steele, a political analyst for MSNBC said making the announcement to host Nicole Wallace on Monday afternoon. Steele was the first African American to be elected to statewide office in Maryland, serving as lieutenant governor from 2003 to 2007. He was also the first African American to serve as chairman of the RNC. Continue reading.

The Lincoln Project’s plan for preserving the union: Drive Trump out of office by driving him nuts

Washington Post logoYour house is on fire. Do you care who the firemen are?

That is a central question of the 2020 election. Donald Trump has managed to do one thing no other president has done: Bring Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and progressives, boomers and millennials together in unprecedented numbers to try to defeat him in November. For Americans who believe the president is a raging threat to democracy, purity tests are out. Results are in.

Which explains the spectacular rise of the Lincoln Project, a group of Republican Never Trumpers who have moved rent free into the president’s head. Their viral videos and tweets mocking his leadership, his intelligence and his patriotism — aimed both at Republican voters who are wavering and Trump himself — have attracted millions of dollars, via donors from both parties. More than 10,000 people showed up for a virtual town hall last month. Lifelong Democrats are organizing fundraisers for the project. Continue reading.

Lincoln Project co-founder reveals how the group will deal with Trump-enabling Republicans after the president is ousted

In an interview with the Washington Post’s Greg Sargent, one of the founders of the Never-Trumper Lincoln Project said he is personally seeking “atonement” for some of the Republicans he once helped into office, and that the group is making plans to eliminate all traces of Trumpism once the president is gone.

Lumped in with those “traces” are the GOP lawmakers who have enabled the president.

According to John Weaver — who admitted that he helped get former GOP Senator Jeff sessions elected — the group has no plans to disband should Trump go down to defeat in November. Continue reading.

#EndorseThis: Lincoln Project Ad Slaps Cowardly GOP Senators

“Walk of Courage,” the latest ad from the Lincoln Project, smacks down Republican Senators who won’t stand up to Donald Trump (meaning all of them except Utah’s Mitt Romney).

In just 30 seconds, this tiny gem contrasts the cowardice of those politicians with the courage of the protesters who rose up after the murder of George Floyd. It shows Black Lives Matter protesters marching peacefully past a group of armed white men during a demonstration in Crown Point, Indiana — and a parade of GOP senators skulking silently past reporters asking them about President Donald Trump’s conduct.or’s
