“Trump is nuts. This time really feels different”: Trump rejects “war council” intervention, goes it alone

The following article by Gabriel Sherman was posted on the Vanity Fair website August 27, 2018:

With his closest allies defecting, the president increasingly trusts only his instincts. He “got joy” from stripping former C.I.A. director John Brennan’s security clearance. And after betrayals by Allen Weisselberg and David Pecker, a former White House official says, Trump “spent the weekend calling people and screaming.”

After Michael Cohen’s plea deal last week, Donald Trump spiraled out of control, firing wildly in all directions. He railed against “flippers” in a rambling Fox & Friends interview, and lashed out on Twitter at Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the Justice Department, and Robert Mueller. In the wake of his outbursts, White House officials have discussed whether Trump would listen to his closest New York City friends in an effort to rein him in. Two sources briefed on the matter told me that senior officials talked about inviting Rudy Giuliani and a group of Trump’s New York real-estate friends including Tom Barrack, Richard LeFrak, and Howard Lorber to the White House to stage an “intervention” last week. “It was supposed to be a war council,” one source explained. But Trump refused to take the meeting, sources said. “You know Trump—he hates being lectured to,” the source added. (Spokespeople for LeFrak and Lorber say they have no knowledge of a meeting. A spokesperson for Barrack didn’t comment.) Continue reading ““Trump is nuts. This time really feels different”: Trump rejects “war council” intervention, goes it alone”

Ivanka’s attempt to cover for Trump’s treason backfired spectacularly

The following article by Tommy Christiopher was posted on the ShareBlue.com website July 22, 2018:

Ivanka Trump’s cynical attempt at damage control just proved once again that she is no ‘moderating’ influence on Trump.

Ivanka Trump often tries to take credit for being a positive influence on Trump, but she proved once again this week that her efforts are just for show.

Buried in a New York Times report this weekend was this detail: Ivanka suggested using a sham event celebrating “America’s workers” to distract from Trump’s disastrous attempts to cover for his arguably treasonous conduct with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin:

The Trump administration lifted sanctions against Chinese telecom ZTE the same day the Chinese government approved new trademarks for his daughter Ivanka.

Sanctions had been imposed on ZTE after it violated prohibitions against doing business with Iran and North Korea.

The Trump administration then reversed course and undid the sanctions against the company on June 7. Continue reading “Ivanka got Chinese deal the same day her dad dropped Chinese sanctions”

Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and top White House adviser, remained curiously silent as the crisis surrounding the administration’s policy of separating immigrant families swelled, despite her previous stance as an advocate for family policy.

But after President Donald Trump signed an executive order addressing the issue — an act he had said just days before was impossible — the first daughter finally spoke publicly.

“Thank you @POTUS for taking critical action ending family separation at our border,” she wrote on Twitter. “Congress must now act + find a lasting solution that is consistent with our shared values;the same values that so many come here seeking as they endeavor to create a better life for their families.” Continue reading “Ivanka Trump Finally Speaks About Separating Immigrant Families — And It’s Totally Absurd”

New York’s attorney general filed suit against President Trump and his three eldest children Thursday, alleging “persistently illegal conduct” at the president’s personal charity and saying that Trump had repeatedly misused the nonprofit organization to pay off his businesses’ creditors, to decorate one of his golf clubs and to stage a multimillion-dollar giveaway at 2016 campaign events.

In the suit, Attorney General Barbara Underwood asked a state judge to dissolve the Donald J. Trump Foundation. She asked that its remaining $1 million in assets be distributed to other charities and that Trump be forced to pay at least $2.8 million in restitution and penalties. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, the president’s daughter and son-in-law, brought in at least $82 million in outside income while serving as senior White House advisers during 2017, according to financial disclosure forms released Monday.

Trump earned $3.9 million from her stake in the Trump International Hotel in Washington and more than $2 million in severance from the Trump Organization, while Kushner reported over $5 million in income from Quail Ridge, a Kushner Cos. apartment complex acquired last year in Plainsboro, NJ.

The filings show how the couple are collecting immense sums from other enterprises while serving in the White House, an extraordinary income flow that ethics experts have warned could create potential conflicts of interests. Amid intense scrutiny of contacts between Donald Trump’s inner circle and representatives of Vladimir Putin, Ivanka Trump’s name has barely come up. But during the campaign, she connected her father’s personal lawyer with a Russian athlete who offered to introduce Donald Trump to Putin to facilitate a 100-story Trump tower in Moscow, according to emails reviewed by BuzzFeed News and four sources with knowledge of the matter.

There is no evidence that Ivanka Trump’s contact with the athlete — the former Olympic weightlifter Dmitry Klokov — was illegal or that it had anything to do with the election. Nor is it clear that Klokov could even have introduced Trump to the Russian president. But congressional investigators have reviewed emails and questioned witnesses about the interaction, according to two of the sources, and so has special counsel Robert Mueller’s team, according to the other two. Ivanka Trump is refusing to answer questions about the glaring conflict of interest created by her work in the White House and her ongoing business dealings with the Chinese government, reported the New York Times‘ Maggie Haberman on Tuesday. President Donald Trump’s daughter was hosting a phone briefing Tuesday with reporters and abruptly left the call after one journalist questioned her recent acquisition of valuable trademarks for her fashion line in China.

“Ivanka Trump is leading a call on a WH event on sports tomorrow,” Haberman wrote. “First question is related to her business trademarks in China. WH aide on call declines to answer and redirects. A few q’s later, aide says Ivanka Trump had to go to another meeting.” Continue reading “Ivanka Trump Abruptly Leaves Call and Dodges Questions on Her Shady Business Deals with China: Report”

BEIJING — China this month awarded Ivanka Trump seven new trademarks across a broad collection of businesses, including books, housewares and cushions.

At around the same time, President Trump vowed to find a way to prevent a major Chinese telecommunications company from going bust, even though the company has a history of violating American limits on doing business with countries like Iran and North Korea.

Coincidence? Well, probably. Continue reading “Ivanka Trump Wins China Trademarks, Then Her Father Vows to Save ZTE Image”

Ivanka Trump now has full security clearance, too

The following article by Alexi McCammond was posted on the Axios website May 24, 2018:

Ivanka Trump’s security clearance was upgraded to full Top Secret at the same time as Jared Kushner’s upgrade on May 1, according to a person briefed on the matter. The White House declined to comment on this story.

Why it matters: Ivanka’s security clearance status hasn’t always been known, and there was speculation she wouldn’t obtain full security clearance after CNN reported the FBI was investigating one of her international business deals back in March.
