Donald Trump Tweets On Hurricane Harvey After Blowback Over Morning Self-Promotion

President Donald Trump finally weighed in on Twitter about Hurricane Harvey, about four hours after getting torched when his regular Friday morning tweet storm was noticeably lacking any reference to the hurricane. Instead he focused on praising himself and punching at perceived foes, including the media and GOP Sen. Bob Corker.

Trump slapped himself on the back, noting that “Few, if any, Administrations have done more in just 7 months than the Trump A. Bills passed, regulations killed, border, military, ISIS, SC!” Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center was warning that Harvey was “dangerously approaching the Texas Coast” and was expected to bring “life-threatening” storm-surge flooding by end of the day, leaving swaths of South Texas “uninhabitable for weeks or months.” The weather service used its strongest language since 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, which left more than 1,800 dead. Hurricane Harvey will be Trump’s first major natural disaster test

THE BIG IDEA: Last August, Donald Trump attacked Barack Obama for golfing on Martha’s Vineyard after floods in Louisiana left 13 people dead. The then-Republican nominee flew to Baton Rouge to hand out toys to children who had lost their homes. “The president says he doesn’t want to go,” an outraged Trump told volunteers at a Baptist church.
