Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: February 19, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

Legislators have returned to St. Paul for the 2020 legislative session. It’s a new year, and we’ve already hit the ground running! I am honored to represent our Edina neighborhoods and elevate our community’s values at the Capitol for another session.

Great to visit with Edina resident Arnie Bigbee, who was here for AARP Day at the Capitol.

Last year the divided state legislature passed a balanced two-year budget for Minnesota. This year, the focus will shift toward a public infrastructure improvement projects, or ‘bonding’ bill, as well as policy focused bills. Any supplemental budgeting will be determined after the February budget forecast, which is scheduled to be released at the end of the month.

Here’s an update from St. Paul: Continue reading “Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: February 19, 2020”

Dear Neighbors,

A big thank you to all Edina residents who attended our District 49 town hall meeting at the end of January. If you missed it, the City of Edina provided recorded coverage of our conversation and you can check it out here.

Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: January 28, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

The 2020 legislative session gets underway on February 11 and I want to know more about what is most important to you and your families. If you could see one piece of legislation pass this session, what would it be? What issues are most important to you and your family?

Please consider taking a short survey (should take 2-3 minutes) to share your input with me in advance of the 2020 session.

I also hope you’ll join me, Rep. Elkins, and Senator Franzen on Thursday, January 30, at Edina City Hall from 6:00-8:00 p.m. to let us know what’s on your mind. The District 49 Town Hall Meeting is family-friendly and open to the public. Continue reading “Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: January 28, 2020”

Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: January 21, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

I hope this finds you well and enjoying the snow. Last week, I had the opportunity to discuss solutions the Legislature can take to tackle hunger in Minnesota with Cory Hepola of WCCO. You can listen to the segment here. You may recall my “Breakfast after the Bell” legislation from last year, which allows schools to establish voluntary meal programs that include grab and go breakfasts, second chance breakfasts, and/or breakfasts in the classroom. Although it didn’t make it in the overall education budget agreement, I’ll continue to advocate for its passage this session.

Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: December 5, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

Today, Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) released the 2019 November Budget and Economic Forecast, showing a balance of $1.332 billion for the 2020-2021 biennium. Additionally, the Economic Forecast revealed that Minnesota continues to have low unemployment and a stable budget.

Although Minnesota’s economy is performing well, we must remain cautious and fiscally judicious. When we take inflation into consideration, our state faces significant budget deficits in the future, which would undermine our ability to deliver a world-class education, safe transportation infrastructure, and good health care for Edina families. Making smart investments in these core values will build a better Minnesota for all of us. Continue reading “Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: December 5, 2019”

Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: November 12, 2019

Dear Neighbors,

I hope this finds you well and adjusting to a chilly start to November!

On November 20, I will be hosting an informational listening session with the City of Edina and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to discuss how parts of Edina are being proposed as a Superfund site due to pollution that came from a business in Saint Louis Park.

I want to reassure you your water is safe and has been treated for years by initiatives taken by our city to protect residents if you live in the area being discussed (as I do).

That said, I encourage you to join us to ask the MPCA and the Minnesota Department of Health questions.

If you live in the Morningside, Country Club, or Sunnyside neighborhoods, I highly encourage you to attend this important meeting.

Here are the details:
Wednesday, November 20 at 6:30-8:30 pm at the Edina City Hall Council Chambers, 4801 W 50th St, Edina, MN 55424
