Republicans criticized a Biden nominee for her tweets. Democrats see a ‘whole new level of hypocrisy.’

For the second time this week, Republican senators grilled President Biden’s pick to head the White House budget office over her history of controversial tweets — infuriating critics of the GOP who said the lawmakers were hypocritical for chastising nominee Neera Tanden while failing to speak up about former president Donald Trump’s incendiary tweetstorms now at the center of an impeachment inquiry.

During a heated back-and-forth, Sen. John Neely Kennedy (R-La.), known for his colorful expressions, accused Tanden of attacking lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

“You called Senator Sanders everything but an ignorant slut,” he said, evoking the sexist term famously satirized on “Saturday Night Live.” Continue reading.

Trump and the GOP are accused of anti-Semitism double standard after piling on Rep. Ilhan Omar

Both messages were elliptical, relying on innuendo and allusion. One was delivered in a seemingly stream-of-consciousness appeal, the other in its online equivalent: a tweet.

The insinuation, in both cases, was that Jews use money to pull strings and sway politics.

The contrasting responses to the opinions, offered by then-presidential candidate Donald Trump in December 2015 and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) this week, speak to concerns about double standards and to the different ways in which the two parties police their own members.

Steve Wynn has stepped down from his hotel company, but the RNC will keep his money for now

Steve Wynn is stepping down from his job as chairman and chief executive of his company Wynn Resorts, amid allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct, it was reported late Tuesday. The move comes about a week after the casino magnate was forced to resign as finance chair of the Republican National Committee.

In a story first reported by the Wall Street Journal, Wynn has been accused of having created a hostile environment for women at his casinos for decades and of pressuring employees to perform sex acts for him.
