WASHINGTON — The string of insults, misstatements, exaggerations and outright falsehoods emanating from the White House began just after sunrise.

In the space of a few hours, President Trump on Tuesday took credit for averting a war with North Korea, charged without proof that President Barack Obama had secretly granted citizenship to thousands of Iranians as part of nuclear disarmament negotiations and appeared to suggest that customers of the motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson were psychic.

He called a sitting congresswoman “crazy” and “corrupt.” He branded the National Security Agency’s handling of millions of telephone call records “a disgrace” — and suggested it was connected to the special counsel investigation into whether his campaign worked with Russia to interfere in the 2016 elections.

Trump has found his new communications director, and it’s Bill Shine — the former co-president of Fox News who resigned in disgrace last year over allegations that he covered up for Roger Ailes’ and Bill O’Reilly’s sexual abuse of women.

It sounds like the perfect fit for Trump, in the worst possible way.

A president who is obsessed with his coverage on Fox News will be advised by a former Fox News head honcho who knows how the network operates from the inside. Continue reading “Trump’s newest hire covered up massive sexual harassment at Fox News”

While President Donald Trump has claimed that special counsel Robert Mueller is leading a “witch hunt” against him, Peters argued on CNN that it is Fox News that is promoting a witch hunt against Mueller. Continue reading “Ex-Fox News Analyst Ralph Peters Unloads on Sean Hannity”

Fox News’s influence on President Trump, from his tweets to his hires, is obvious. But the White House won’t admit that the most powerful man in the world gets ideas from a TV channel.

At a media briefing Wednesday, ABC’s Cecilia Vega noted Trump’s sudden “sense of urgency about sending the National Guard to the border” and asked, “Does this have anything to do with a report that the president saw on Fox News?” Continue reading “The White House won’t admit that Trump gets ideas from Fox News”

WASHINGTON — The release of the memo mattered less than #releasethememo.

After weeks of buildup, the three-and-a-half-page document about alleged F.B.I. abuses during the 2016 presidential campaign made public on Friday was broadly greeted with criticism, including by some Republicans. They said it cherry-picked information, made false assertions and was overly focused on an obscure, low-level Trump campaign adviser, Carter Page.
