Fox News legal analyst accuses ‘shameless’ Trump of unleashing ‘a torrent of hatred’ not seen since the 1960s

AlterNet logoFox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano this week published a scathing editorial in which he called out President Donald Trump for promoting hatred and division in the United States.

In the editorial, Napolitano recalls the divisions created by the Vietnam War, and he says that the hatred being stoked by Trump rivals the turbulent late 1960s. Napolitano argues that Trump’s decision to tell four Democratic lawmakers to “go back” to their home countries despite being American citizens was a particularly divisive and racist comment.

“‘Go back’ is a rejection of the nation as a melting pot; a condemnation of one of America’s founding values – E Pluribus Unum (Out of many, one),” he writes. “It implicates a racial or nativist superiority: We were here before you; this is our land, not yours; get out. Nativist hatred is an implication of moral or even legal superiority that has no constitutional justification in American government.”

Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera turns his back on Trump after racist uproar: His ‘critics were much more right than I’

AlterNet logoDeep in a report on the fissures Donald Trump created between himself and some of his defenders, after he launched a racist attack on four Democratic lawmakers that led to an equally racist chant at a North Carolina presidential rally, Fox News contributor Gerald Rivera admitted that he now finds it near impossible to defend the president.

In an interview with the New York Times that came after Rivera blew up on a fellow Fox News host over the “send her back” chant aimed at Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) the longtime Fox personality said he has all but given up on Trump.

“As much as I have denied it and averted my eyes from it, this latest incident made it impossible,” Rivera confessed.

Fox News buried in mockery after asking why Americans are ashamed of US under Trump

Fox News pointed to a new poll showing that fewer than half of Americans are “extremely proud” of their nationality — and they received hundreds of reminders of the shame inflicted by President Donald Trump.

The “Fox & Friends First” program tweeted out the results of the poll and asked other social media users to comment on the decline of pride in the U.S., and they were hit with more than 2,000 comments in less than two hours.

Fox & Friends First

A new poll shows only 45% of men and women in the U.S. are ‘extremely proud’ to be American. That is the lowest amount ever recorded by this poll. What do you think is causing the decline?

Shep Smith delivers epic fact check to Fox News audience: We’re treating migrant children worse than prisoners of war

AlterNet logoAs favorable to President Donald Trump as Fox News generally is, certain Fox hosts aren’t shy about criticizing him at times. One of them is Shepard Smith, who equated conditions in immigration detention centers near the U.S./Mexico border with “violations of the Geneva Convention” during a Tuesday broadcast.

Trump has claimed that conditions in migrant detention centers in 2019 are “much better than they were under President Obama.” But Smith disagreed vehemently on Tuesday, describing conditions at a detention center in Clint, Texas as “horrendous” and saying that children were wearing clothes “covered in snot” and had “no access to toothbrushes or toothpaste or soap — basic necessities for any of us and all the more so for children.”

Smith was also highly critical of conditions in those detention centers during his Monday, June 24 broadcast. Following up the next day, Smith explained, “We reported accurately here yesterday that were these prisoners of war instead of innocent children, those withholding of those items would be violations of the Geneva Convention. That is what the president considers treating well the children of migrants who came across the border without documents — children who are now separated from their families.”

Former Fox News reporter delivers brutal fact-check to network’s ‘right-wing hosts’ and ‘partisan misinformation’

AlterNet logoViewers of Fox News will remember a frequent face on the network during many of the elections for the past couple of decades. He was such a ubiquitous presence he was referred to endearingly as Campaign Carl. However, Carl Cameron retired from Fox News after twenty-two years a couple of years ago. And if anyone is wondering what happened to him since, well, you might be surprised.

Cameron just announced his participation in a new Internet news aggregation site called Front Page Live. He formed it with David Romm of ThinkProgress to be “an antidote to the Drudge Report.” The founders plan to provide a platform for progressive news along with opportunities to take action on causes like climate change and liberal politics. And unlike Drudge, their focus will be on accurate news stories, rather than flagrantly slanted propaganda of shills like Breitbart and Infowars and … Fox News.

Cameron released a video (see below) explaining his new venture, and he didn’t mince words about his former employer and colleagues at Fox:

Trump’s disturbing answer about how he could ‘unite’ the country echoes his maniacal demand for loyalty

I was somewhat surprised when, during her interview with Trump, Laura Ingraham asked, “What could you do to unite the country at a time of great polarization?” Throughout his presidency, Trump has demonstrated that his only concern is to ignite his base of supporters against those he defines as their enemies.

True to form, here is the president’s response.

So, I think success should unite the country but I will tell you the more successful we’ve come the more angry people like Nancy Pelosi, who don’t have what it takes, if they don’t know what’s going on they get angry.  They should – an example is Mexico, I said we’re going to put tariffs on because we want you to help us because they won’t pass any legislation in Congress and I have Senators and others and Pelosi coming out saying how horrible.  What they’re doing is they’re hurting a deal, they should be saying we’re with the President, we’ll do whatever he wants to do and Mexico would fold like an umbrella.  Now, I have these people and I’m saying there’s some republicans too, I think they should be ashamed of themselves but we have Pelosi, we have crying Chuck Schumer who’s a disaster by the way, he’s a total political, you know, jerk but we have Schumer, we have all these people, they come out and they  talk about tariffs so bad so they can killing– they hurt my negotiation…

Morning Joe co-host ridicules Hannity’s freakout over Pelosi saying Trump belongs in prison: ‘Irony meter’ melted down ‘like Chernobyl’

Fox News host Sean Hannity freaked out over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) calling for President Donald Trump’s imprisonment — and MSNBC’s Willie Geist was astonished.

Pelosi said earlier this week that she remained uninterested in impeachment, but would prefer Trump be voted out next year and prosecuted and put in prison.

“Speaker Pelosi now apparently telling senior Democrats that she’d like to see Trump behind bars,” Hannity informed viewers.

Fox News host explains why Mueller’s statement was ‘almost exactly the opposite’ of AG Barr’s: This was not ‘no collusion’

Fox News host Bret Baier on Wednesday analyzed special counsel Robert Mueller’s stunning statement on the results of the Russia investigation, explaining that the special counsel’s report did not exonerate Donald Trump — despite the president and Attorney William Barr’s claim to the contrary.

Speaking on with host Bill Hemmer and Sandra Smith, Baier said he was “struck by the tone and tenor of the remarks as he laid out his case wrapping up this report.”

“This was not as the president says time and time again no collusion, no obstruction,” Baier said. “It was much more nuanced than that.”

Trump 2020 reelection campaign sponsors Laura Ingraham’s podcast

Although some of the less overtly partisan figures at Fox News will occasionally criticize President Donald Trump when they believe it is warranted, Fox News’ opinion hosts remains an overtly pro-Trump. And one of Trump’s most vocal defenders at Fox has been Laura Ingraham — who is so pro-Trump that her May 28 podcast was sponsored in part by the president’s 2020 reelection campaign.

“The Laura Ingraham Podcast” is not part of Fox News but rather, is a side hustle for Ingraham — who was a far-right AM radio star long before Fox hired her. But like her cable show on Fox, the podcast underscores her overtly pro-Trump and anti-Democrat viewpoint. And one of the sponsors of her May 28 podcast was the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, a joint fundraising effort by Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC).

At the end of the May 28 episode, Ingraham said, “I want to thank all of our sponsors for supporting this show: Brush Hero, SeroVital and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee.”

Fox News Judge: Yes, Trump’s Misconduct Is Impeachable

The revelation last weekend by Michigan Republican Congressman Justin Amash that he believes the Mueller Report accuses President Donald Trump of impeachable offenses has ignited firestorms in both major political parties on Capitol Hill. Amash’s argument is simple and essentially unassailable, though his fellow congressional Republicans don’t want to hear it and Democrats don’t know what to do with it.

Here is the backstory.

When special counsel Robert Mueller delivered his report to Attorney General William Barr, it was a 448-page tome that effectively summarized nearly two years of work and nearly two million pages of documents in an effort to establish whether elements of the Russian government interfered with the 2016 presidential election, and, if so, whether the Russians had any American collaborators in the Trump campaign.
