Rep. Erin Koegel (37A) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

As we prepare for the final full week of session, we’re
waiting for conference committees to finish their work on the major omnibus finance bills while we debate and vote on other legislation on the House floor. Here are some of the latest updates from the Capitol:

REAL ID Update

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Minnesota will be considered compliant with the federal REAL ID law as long as we’re capable of taking applications for a REAL ID by October 1, 2018, meaning current licenses or ID cards will be sufficient for federal purposes like boarding an airplane or entering military installations until 2020. Rep. Erin Koegel (37A) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

This week at the Capitol, we’ve been hearing and voting on omnibus finance bills and tax conformity legislation. I’m encouraged by the progress we’re making so far, but I’m hoping to see a robust jobs bill come before the House soon as well. Here are the latest updates from St. Paul:

Tax Conformity

On Monday, the House passed a bill designed to modify the state tax code after changes at the federal level last year. This is a good step as it will prevent filing from becoming increasingly complicated next year while also delivering cuts to many Minnesotans. I’m committed to upholding our values as a community: fairness, opportunity for all, responsible investments in our future. While the bill included some modest tax cuts for families, it was weighted too heavily in favor of large corporations. We must remain committed to ensuring our economy works for everyone, regardless of income. Continue reading “Rep. Erin Koegel (HD37A) Update: May 3, 2018”

Rep. Erin Koegel (37A) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

We have fewer than four weeks left in the legislative
session and will be hearing omnibus finance bills and a tax conformity bill in the coming days. Here’s the latest from the Capitol:

MnDOT Commitment

Last week, Rep. Connie Bernardy and I authored an amendment directing the Minnesota Department of Transportation to conduct a safety study on Hwy. 47. While the amendment was blocked, MnDOT did agree to look into possible safety improvements along the corridor. Continue reading “Rep. Erin Koegel (HD37A) Update: April 26, 2018”

Rep. Erin Koegel (37A) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

We have a little over a month left in the 2018 legislative
session and another deadline looming. Our third bill deadline is this Friday at midnight, at which point committees must act on finance bills. The different
finance committees are scheduled to act on omnibus bills this week and we don’t know if they will head to the floor individually or in one mega-legislation package. Here are some updates from the Capitol: Continue reading “Rep. Erin Koegel (HD37A) Update: April 19, 2018”

Rep. Erin Koegel (37A) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

The Legislature is back from its Easter/Passover break, and we have a lot on our plate to get done before adjourning on May 21, like tax conformity, a strong bonding bill, and more. Here are some updates from the Capitol:

Opioid Bill

On Tuesday, the House Health and Human Services Finance
Committee heard the bill designed to address the opioid epidemic in Minnesota. I announced my support for this bill a few weeks ago and am glad to co-author it. Continue reading “Rep. Erin Koegel (HD37A) Update: April 12, 2018”

Rep. Erin Koegel (37A) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

Our second committee deadline is tomorrow at midnight, so
we’ve been having long committee meetings ahead of the Easter/Passover break next week. Here are the latest updates from the Capitol:

State Employee Contracts

On Monday, the House passed the public employee contracts that had been negotiated in 2017, sending them to Gov. Dayton’s desk where he signed them on Tuesday. In our community, we know how hard public employees work and how important that work is to our state.

Rep. Erin Koegel (37A) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

The first bill deadline for this session is Thursday at midnight, so committees are having long meetings to get bills heard and passed.
Here are some updates from the Capitol:

Hwy 47 Bill Introduced

Last Thursday, I introduced a bill that would require and fund a safety study of Hwy 47 in Fridley, Blaine, Coon Rapids, and Spring Lake Park. Increasing the safety of Hwy 47 for drivers and pedestrians is one of my highest priorities this session, and I’m glad members of both parties have signaled their support for my bill. Rep. Erin Koegel (37A) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

We had another full week at the Capitol and I don’t expect the pace to slow down at all from now until adjournment. Here are the highlights of what happened this week:

Veterans Day on the Hill

Monday was Veterans Day at the Capitol, giving veterans and
advocates the opportunity to speak to legislators about issues important to them. Some of the main topics included stopping predatory lending against veterans’ benefits and helping keep surviving spouses in their homes. Thank you to all the veterans and advocates who made it to the Capitol. Continue reading “Rep. Erin Koegel (HD37A) Update: March 15, 2018”

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you all stayed safe during the snowstorm earlier this week. As warmer weather moves in, things are heating up at the Capitol as well. Here’s a quick update from St. Paul:

City Representative Meetings

On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to meet with city
representatives from our district. Officials from Blaine, Coon Rapids, and Spring Lake Park stopped by as part of the North Metro Mayor’s Association Day at the Capitol. I always appreciate hearing ideas and input from local officials and city leaders. Continue reading “Rep. Erin Koegel (HD37A) Update: March 8, 2018”
