EXCLUSIVE: Trump vehemently denies E. Jean Carroll allegation, says ‘she’s not my type’

The Hill logoPresident Trump said Monday that writer E. Jean Carroll was “totally lying” when she recently accused him of raping her during an encounter in a New York department store in the mid-1990s.

In an exclusive interview with The Hill, the president vehemently denied the allegations just hours after Carroll detailed the alleged incident during a cable news interview.

“I’ll say it with great respect: Number one, she’s not my type. Number two, it never happened. It never happened, OK?” the president said while seated behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.

Trump Rages At Rape Accuser Carroll — But His Denial Includes An Obvious Lie

In a horrifying piece for The Cut, journalist E. Jean Carroll joined the more than a dozen women who have accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault and misconduct. Her story includes one of the worst allegations yet, that Trump forced her against a wall and raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman 23 years ago as she tried to fight him off.

The article already included a denial from the White House, but after the story was published, Trump issued a new statement attacking Carroll. And it included at least one clear lie.

“I’ve never met this person in my life,” the statement said. “She is trying to sell a new book—that should indicate her motivation.”

Trump denies new sexual assault allegation

The Hill logoPresident Trump on Friday denied that he sexually assaulted writer E. Jean Carroll after the longtime advice columnist accused the president of raping her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s.

“False accusations diminish the severity of real assault. All should condemn false accusations and any actual assault in the strongest possible terms,” Trump said.

Trump asserted in a statement that he’d never met Carroll and accused her of making the allegation to boost sales for her book. Trump further suggested that Carroll’s claim may be politically motivated.

Trump faces rape accusation from author E. Jean Carroll

Axios logoIn a New York magazine cover story published Friday, author E. Jean Carroll accused President Trump of raping her in a dressing room of New York’s Bergdorf Goodman department store in the mid-1990s.

Why it matters: Carroll’s accusation is the 16th allegation of sexual misconduct or assault levied against the president throughout his time in public life — all of which he has denied.

  • Trump was caught on tape in 2005 during filming for an episode of “Access Hollywood” discussing groping and kissing women and saying that “when you’re a star, they let you do it.” That tape was given to the Washington Post during the 2016 election.
  • The White House issued a statement on Friday evening in which Trump claimed he “never met this person in my life,” despite the New York magazine article featuring a photo of Trump and Carroll together in 1987.

Between the lines: It’s unusual to see a sexual assault allegation written in first person — the piece is an excerpt from Carroll’s forthcoming book “What Do We Need Men For: A Modest Proposal?” — but Carroll says she disclosed the incident to two friends soon afterward, which New York magazine says it verified.
