President Trump is a book genre unto himself. There’s “Understanding Trump,” by Newt Gingrich, whom Trump considered as a running mate; “Let Trump Be Trump,” by former Trump campaign aides Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie; “The Swamp,” by former Fox News Channel host Eric Bolling; and a forthcoming book by former White House press secretary Sean Spicer (working title: “The Briefing”). Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is calling a 2016 meeting between senior Trump campaign aides and a Russian lawyer they believed had dirt on Hillary Clinton “treasonous.”

In an interview for a coming book by Michael Wolff, Bannon slammed Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner (President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and a close campaign and White House adviser) and Paul Manafort (his campaign chairman at the time of the meeting who has been indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller). War between Trump, media set to intensify

The following article by Jonathan Easley was posted on the Hill website December 28, 2017:

Donald Trump’s unconventional presidency has roiled the media landscape, creating new dynamics that will play a major role in shaping his second year in office.

Some of the leading names in print journalism and cable news have taken an unusually adversarial approach to covering Trump, leading to charges of bias and sparking a debate within the industry about whether the president is being covered fairly. Earlier this year, Donald Trump Jr. posted on Instagram: “Well done Mr. President! Congratulations on an amazing 100 days, and I look forward to many more years of you fighting for America. Keep it up.”

Eric Trump appeared on Fox News in June and said his father “has been in office for 150-something days and I think he has accomplished more than any president, arguably in history, has over that same period of time.” Continue reading “The White House and the Trump Organization have merged”

Trump Junior’s Privilege Claim Recalls Failed Effort To Shield Marcos

The following article by Joe Conason was posted on the National Memo website December 10, 2017:

Long before Donald Trump, Jr. claimed “attorney-client privilege” to avoid answering questions before the House Intelligence Committee, that claim was tested and wisely rejected by Congress. Appropriately enough, that prior case also featured a real estate executive who was summoned to testify about suspected connections with a foreign dictator — and tried to avoid questions in a Congressional hot seat.

Appearing on December 6 before the intelligence committee, the president’s eldest son specifically declined to answer questions about a crucial conversation with his father. That chat occurred last July, when the two Donalds discussed how to cope with the release of a series of emails that showed Junior had met with Russians offering “dirt” on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign. By Saturday, Donald Trump Jr.’s Twitter feed was filled with tweets and retweets slamming CNN over its bombshell-turned-dud story involving WikiLeaks documents and the president’s eldest son.

Trump Jr., who, like his father, is vocally partisan and highly critical of the mainstream media on Twitter, claimed — without evidence — that CNN reporters Manu Raju and Jeremy Herb “got played” by their “puppet masters.” He also tweeted that CNN’s “democratic sources” are trying to push a false narrative.

“I won’t hold my breath for an apology, or for you to call out your puppet masters on the left that fed you BS knowing you would gleefully run with it without ever checking the other side,” Trump Jr. said in a Saturday morning tweet that addressed Raju, CNN’s senior congressional correspondent. “Apparently it was just too good a scoop for you to actually do your job. You got played.” Continue reading “CNN botched a story about Trump Jr. — who claims, without evidence, that reporters ‘got played’”

Donald Trump Jr. faces a grilling today. Here are some big questions.

THE MORNING PLUM:

“Keep coming at me guys!!!” taunted Donald Trump Jr. last month, in response to those who preposterously continue trying to determine the truth about Russian sabotage of our election and Trump campaign collusion with it. Today, Trump Jr. faces closed-door questioning from the House Intelligence Committee, and hopefully, that will make some headway toward getting more answers. Some key areas of inquiry:

The Trump Tower meeting. Trump Jr. is expected to face questioning about his June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower with a Kremlin-connected lawyer, NBC News reports. We have now learned from NBC’s reporting that the lawyer has claimed that at the meeting, which was also attended by son-in-law Jared Kushner and former campaign chair Paul Manafort, Trump Jr. asked the lawyer for information about illegal donations to the Clinton Foundation. It wasn’t forthcoming. Continue reading “Donald Trump Jr. faces a grilling today. Here are some big questions.”

Donald Trump Jr. had just posted a batch of private messages he exchanged with WikiLeaks during last year’s campaign, confirming reports that he communicated with the website that published stolen Democratic emails obtained by Russian military intelligence.

Donald Trump Jr.’s 2016 trip to Paris for lunch with Moscow-linked couple remains a puzzle

Shortly before last year’s presidential election, Donald Trump Jr. flew to France for lunch at the Hotel Ritz Paris with a Syrian peace activist, who says she meets regularly with Russian officials, and her French husband, who nominated Russian President Vladimir Putin for a Nobel Peace Prize last year.

Donald Trump’s eldest son dined with his hosts, Randa Kassis and Fabien Baussart, at a corner table in the opulent Louis XV Salon. That night, Trump Jr. addressed a seminar organized by Baussart, who heads an obscure foreign policy think tank, for a fee of at least $50,000.

Alleged Russian Gangster Met With Don Jr.

The following article by Julia Glum of Newsweek was posted on the National Memo website November 19, 2017:

Allegations of collusion continued to pile up against Donald Trump Jr. this week, with the New York Times reporting Friday that the first son went to a May 2016 dinner attended by a top Russian official who was trying to set up a covert meeting with the campaign.

NBC News confirmed Saturday that Donald Trump Jr. talked with Alexander Torshin, a friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the deputy head of the country’s central bank, at an event hosted by the National Rifle Association in Kentucky. But the first son’s lawyer insisted the duo didn’t sit together. Continue reading “Alleged Russian Gangster Met With Don Jr.”
