Agreement includes over $23 million in direct investments to state parties and grassroots infrastructure during 2022 election cycle

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Today, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and state parties including the DFL Party announced a historic four-year agreement that will guarantee more investment into Democratic state parties and grassroots infrastructure than ever before. At a minimum, this investment will provide $23 million to state parties as part of Democrats’ 2022 midterm strategy, and creates a first-of-its-kind program to focus additional investments in historically red states to build on Democrats’ 57 states and territories strategy.

The agreement will establish a brand-new, seven-figure “Red State Fund” to put Republicans on defense and build tailored programs for traditionally Republican states. The Red State Fund includes $2 million in direct investments and grants for states that meet two of the following criteria: no Democratic senator or governor, less than 25% of the congressional delegation are Democrats, and a supermajority of Republicans in their state legislature.

The contract also includes a data sharing agreement that increases investment in down-ballot races, solidifies another four years of historic investment in Democratic data, and anchors the DNC and state parties as the central hub of the Democratic data ecosystem.

DNC Releases New Television Ad: Exploding

The DNC War Room today released a television ad, “Exploding,” to highlight to critical swing voters how coronavirus is exploding again across the country because of President Trump.

The Trump campaign is running ads about being tough on China, but Trump’s failure to promptly address coronavirus, lest he upset China, is maybe the most disastrous example of a president getting played by a foreign country, leading to a total catastrophe at home.

“More than 125,000 deaths, 20 million jobs lost, and the worst recession in generations. It didn’t have to be this bad. Trump ignored warnings, downplayed the crisis, and put his joke of a trade deal ahead of the American people. Now we’re paying the price,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez. “He put himself and his political fortunes first, and the health and well-being of the American people last.”

New DNC ‘Descent’ ad encapsulates all the ways Trump has ‘brought America down with him’

AlterNet logoSay this for the impeached popular-vote losing, white supremacist, wanna-be dictator, grifting demagogue squatting in the Oval Office—he makes for good opposition ad fodder. Like this one done by the DNC for Joe Biden called “Descent.”

“Five years ago Donald Trump descended to the basement of Trump Tower,” the narrator says over video of that gross golden escalator ride he took to announce his candidacy. “For the last five years,” it continues, “he’s brought America down with him.” Then the ad launches into a litany of what Trump has managed to destroy in just three-and-a-half years: “attacking health care for people with preexisting conditions; giving massive tax cuts to billionaires, not working families; praising white supremacists, stoking racial division; losing 300,000 jobs in a failed trade war with China; locking children in cages.”

“He ignored science on coronavirus and misled the American people,” the ad continues, then shows a snippet of Trump saying it would “miraculously go away,” but “It didn’t. Now, over 100,000 dead Americans, 20 million jobs destroyed. Recession.” And then again a video snippet of Trump saying “No, I don’t take responsibility at all.” Then it hits national security and how he “shredded our alliances and turned our military on American citizens,” showing video of the attack on protesters in Lafayette Square and Trump’s Bible photo op. “You have the power to end the descent of our nation, to choose justice, unity, leadership,” the ad concludes. “Because we can’t afford four more years of Trump.” Continue reading.

DNC Announces New National Record Linkage System

Algorithm developed by DNC expert in the field of record linkage will increase organizing efficiency by 9 percent and provide campaigns with more comprehensive view of the overall electorate

Today the Democratic National Committee is launching a new, proprietary national record linkage system that will be integrated into the DNC’s voter file — deduplicating millions of voter records, providing campaigns with a more comprehensive view of the electorate and increasing the effectiveness of Democratic organizers across the country.

“This record linkage system is an example of how the DNC is developing and implementing cutting-edge data science solutions to increase the effectiveness of Democratic organizers, improve our view of every possible voter and make sure Trump is a one-term president,” said Democratic National Committee Chief Technology Officer Nellwynn Thomas. “The DNC made early, historic investments in our data and technology infrastructure and is working with top data scientists to develop these kinds of innovative products that will help Democrats at every level of the ballot secure victory in November.”

“At the DNC, we’re taking the most advanced data science ideas and applying them to help Democrats win,” said DNC Data Science Director Jody Heck Wortman, who developed this record linkage model. “Having a high-quality record linkage system in place will help Democrats talk to more voters, more efficiently — and we are proud to support the work of our organizers with the best data possible.” Continue reading “DNC Announces New National Record Linkage System”

Democrats File Lawsuit to Expand Voting Access in Nevada

Today, the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Nevada State Democratic Party, and Priorities USA filed suit in the Eighth Judicial District Court of Clark County seeking to expand voting access for Nevada’s primary on June 9.

The suit is also being brought on behalf of several Nevadans whose right to vote is being infringed under the current policies in light of the coronavirus pandemic and who recognize the importance of providing safeguards to vote by mail and making sure that those who vote in person can do so safely — including a student who was displaced from university housing due to coronavirus and cannot easily obtain a ballot sent to his university address and other individuals who would have to drive outrageous distances because of the lack of polling locations.

Under the Nevada Secretary of State’s current policy, 87% of Nevada’s population could be serviced by two voting centers, likely resulting in long lines like in Wisconsin, while hundreds of thousands of voters deemed “inactive” would not be mailed an absentee ballot. Other rules barring volunteers from assisting voters and allowing arbitrary ballot rejections based on signature mismatches also threaten Nevadans’ ability to safely participate in the election. DNC Announces $22 Million General Election YouTube Reservation

Ads will reach voters in 14 battleground states, generate hundreds of millions of impressions and compliment the eventual nominee’s get-out-the-vote efforts

Today the Democratic National Committee announced a $22 million general-election YouTube reservation across 14 battleground states (AZ, CO, FL, GA, MI, MN, ME, NC, NH, NV,  OH, PA, VA, WI) to help support get-out-the-vote efforts for the eventual nominee and Democrats running at every level of the ballot.

“Now more than ever, it’s critical that we reach voters where they are online — and this digital program will help us mobilize the voters we need to make Donald Trump a one-term president,” said Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez. “By making these kinds of historic, early investments in our battlegrounds and campaign infrastructure, the DNC is putting our eventual nominee and Democrats running at every level of the ballot in the strongest possible position to secure victory in November.”

“By making this reservation now, Democrats are ensuring we’ll be able to reach voters at the right time, with the right message and in some of the most critical battlegrounds,” said Democratic National Committee Chief Mobilization Officer Patrick Stevenson. “Before the coronavirus hit, the DNC was already preparing an aggressive general election online strategy — and the pandemic has only reinforced the importance of communicating with voters across a wide range of online channels and utilizing a variety of innovative, data-driven digital tactics. That’s the approach we’re taking, and these ads will be another important tool that will help our eventual nominee and Democrats running at every level win in November.”

Democrats to delay convention until August

The Hill logoThe Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee will be delayed for a month because of the coronavirus pandemic, the host committee announced on Thursday.

The Democratic nominating convention will now take place over four days beginning on Aug. 17 after originally being scheduled to take place July 13-16. The Hill was first to report on the change.

A source close to Joe Biden’s campaign told The Hill that the former vice president pushed to have the convention moved, while keeping the same format. Continue reading.

Mike Bloomberg transfers his campaign assets to Democratic Party to fight President Trump in swing states

Washington Post logoFormer New York mayor Mike Bloomberg has decided to donate significant components of his shuttered presidential campaign to the Democratic Party, a historic bequest that includes an $18 million cash infusion to organize for the general election in swing states.

The decision, which exploits a provision in campaign finance law available only to federal candidates, amounts to a shift in strategy for the billionaire political activist, who had previously promised to personally fund ground staff and offices in six states through an independent expenditure effort.

He now hopes that much of the same operation will be run through the state and national Democratic Party, which would allow for it to directly coordinate with the Democratic nominee, whom he expects to be former vice president Joe Biden. An independent expenditure campaign is barred from such coordination. Continue reading.
