WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dean Phillips (MN-03) kicked off the 2021 Congressional Art Competition, calling for submissions from high school students across Minnesota’s Third District. The Congressional Art Competition has been a nationwide tradition since 1982, meant to showcase the creativity and talent of America’s young artists. 

Submissions received by April 17th will be evaluated by a panel of distinguished judges, and the winning submission will be prominently displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. In addition, members of the public will be invited to vote online for the People’s Choice award, the winner of which will be hung in the Congressman’s Washington, DC office.

Winner announced for Third District Congressional Art Competition

Works of art by nearly 100 high school students from around the west metro adorned the walls of Minnetonka Center for the Arts April 17-24.

The pieces were submitted for consideration in this year’s Congressional Art Competition for Minnesota’s Third District, which culminated in an April 24 awards ceremony at the arts center hosted by U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips.

Each spring, nationwide high school art competitions sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives invite young artists to submit their best work.

Rep. Phillips Kicks Off Congressional Art Competition

MINNETONKA, MNRep. Dean Phillips is kicking off the Congressional Art Competition in Minnesota’s Third District this week. Students grades 9-12 living or attending school in the Third District are invited to create original 2D works of art in the medium of their choosing by April 15, 2019 for consideration.

The winning student artist and one guest will be flown to Washington DC where their piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol alongside winning artwork from across the country for one year. Additional artwork will be selected for display in Rep. Phillips’s district office.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district and the nation. More than 650,000 high school students have participated over three decades.
