President Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday agreed to a revitalized Atlantic Charter in their first face-to-face meeting, a day ahead of the Group of Seven summit. The document, which updates an agreement signed in 1941, seeks to build on common principles to address new challenges, including climate change and cyberattacks.

Biden, visiting England on his first overseas trip as president, later described the U.S. decision to donate 500 million doses of coronavirus vaccine to other nations as “a monumental commitment by the American people.” He said other G-7 nations would also be announcing vaccine commitments. LONDON — President Trump and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson have prompted many comparisons over the years: as populists, as politicians who aren’t afraid to offend, as people who play fast and loose with the facts. Now, they are a pair of world leaders with personal experience of the coronavirus.

But whereas Johnson spent weeks trying to fight off and then recover from the virus, Trump claims to have beaten it in just days. Johnson came back to work urging patience and determination, describing the virus as an “invisible mugger” that must be wrestled to the floor with collective action. Trump returned to the White House on Monday night playing down the virus, declaring: “Don’t let it dominate you. Don’t be afraid of it.”

Here’s where their journeys overlapped — and where they diverged. Continue reading.

Trump asked Boris Johnson to help discredit the Mueller inquiry by revealing British intelligence on his links to Russia

Donald Trump called Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this year and asked him for access to British intelligence which may discredit the Mueller inquiry into the president’s alleged links to Russia.

The Times of London reports that the president called Johnson on July 26 and asked him to provide the US Attorney General William Barr with evidence that may undermine the investigation.

Several days later Barr attended a meeting of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance in London where he repeated the president’s suspicions about UK intelligence agencies, the paper reports.
