Charlottesville Anniversary

We’re one year past the Charlottesville tragedy, and Trump has only further cemented his status as a divider. Rather than work to ease racial tensions and bridge cultural divides in America, the president has made it clear that he prefers to use division as a tool to rally his base.

We have not forgotten that the leader of this country openly and unapologetically defended the alt-right, white supremacists, and Neo-Nazis. Every time Trump insults black leaders, tweets about anthem protests, or uses racist and offensive language, he continues to divide our country.

Democrats have denounced in the strongest possible terms the hatred, bigotry, and racism that led to the senseless murder of an innocent woman at the Charlottesville protests. Democrats believe that there’s no room for this sort of brutality in America.

Democrats believe in a future of inclusion and opportunity for all Americans. Absolutely no one should fear for their safety because of the color of their skin.

Diversity is our nation’s greatest strength, and any actions that make this country less inclusive are inherently un-American. We’ll fight tooth and nail against any attempts to divide our country.

Last weekend, the Rocklands Farm in Poolesville, Maryland gave the boot to Richard Spencer and his white nationalist think tank, the National Policy Institute, midway through their scheduled conference. “Throughout our history of hosting private events, we have never had to ask a group to leave,” the owners’ statement read. “However, yesterday, November 19, we discovered that a private event held here was, in reality, a gathering of an organization that is strongly in opposition to our values.”

Steve Bannon says rivals ‘wetting themselves,’ calls supremacists ‘clowns,’ contradicts Trump on N. Korea

Stephen K. Bannon, the White House chief strategist, seemed to take issue with President Trump on North Korea, attacked white supremacists as “clowns” and “losers” and described his efforts against administration rivals in an unusual interview Wednesday with The American Prospect, a progressive magazine.

The interview with magazine co-editor and columnist Robert Kuttner was initiated by Bannon, Kuttner said, in an Anthony Scaramucci-style phone call out of the blue in response to a column Kuttner had written on China. That’s the provocative opening scene of a documentary-style movie outlined 10 years ago by Stephen K. Bannon that envisioned radical Muslims taking over the country and remaking it into the “Islamic States of America,” according to a document describing the project obtained by The Washington Post. Bannon Takes Control

While Trump lies, the former Breitbart chief seizes the reins of power.

One key question of the Trump presidency in its first week is: who is actually going to perform the tasks associated with the job?

While the liberal comedians and right-wing pundits agitate themselves about crowd sizes, odd tweets and imaginary voter fraud, Politico and the Hill supply some data points about the all-important paper flow in Washington. Steve Bannon, the former Goldman Sachs executive-turned-Breitbart news chief, is running the government, while the president argues with actresses.

Politico reports that the executive orders Trump has been signing were prepared and coordinated by Bannon. Various Cabinet secretaries and congressional leaders were not consulted, according to the story. Such procedural corner-cutting is not inconsequential when it comes to spending $25 billion of taxpayer funds or running the CIA. Continue reading “Bannon Takes Control”
