To the editor:
I read with dismay State Rep. Cindy Pugh’s Facebook posting of a plot to mobilize Muslims to infiltrate our caucuses. Not only did she post this false narrative to her Facebook page, where it attracted national scorn, she encouraged others to spread this fake news as well. This type of hate and hysterical nativism is not what the good citizens of Minnesota 33B need or want from our elected leaders. We are an educated, moderate community and we deserve better.
I attended the Democratic caucus and was thrilled to find a packed house with no parking in the parking lot and standing room only inside. It is clear that citizens in our district want change and are willing to participate in the process in order to achieve it.
No one was turned away or discouraged from attending.
Kelly Morrison, a Deephaven resident and physician planning to run against Cindy Pugh, spoke. Her well-reasoned beliefs and thoughts on the district were an encouraging breath of fresh air. As a lifelong Minnesota resident and mother of three, she clearly cares passionately about our district and is alarmed, like the rest of us, by the downward spiral discourse has taken. She spoke about the leadership role Minnesota has long held in education, health care and environmental protection and how we need to make evidence-based, fact-driven decisions in these areas.
As a scientist/physician she is well-qualified to be part of the decision making process at the state house.
I encourage all residents of 33B to take the time to learn more about Kelly Morrison and vote for change in our district. Enough of Cindy Pugh’s divisive fear-mongering and irrational fringe beliefs. We deserve a state representative who will focus on the issues that matter to us.
