Sen. Steve Cwodzinski (SD48) Update: December 21, 2018

Ending Violence in Our Communities

Community members in Eden Prairie got together earlier this month to discuss the intersections of both racial violence and gun violence. Many of the speakers were young people with powerful stories to share, and seeing their courage did my heart good. Also in attendance with me were Eden Prairie Mayor-elect Ron Case, Representative-elect Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn, and Representative Laurie Pryor.

Minnesota Ballet School’s Nutcracker Performance

Last weekend I was given the opportunity to present the opening introduction for the Minnesota Ballet School’s Nutcracker performance. I could not be more proud of everyone involved, including a constituent of mine, Cher Mitchell, who helped organize the event.

My wife Patti and I had a wonderful time talking with the students after the show and congratulating them.

Thank you to Minnesota Ballet School owners Kirill and Svetlana Bak for all of the work you do to promote the arts.

Breaking Ground on Southwest Light Rail

Readers of our last newsletter may remember that it was sent out on the day that work began on the Southwest Light Rail project. Hours after that email went out, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the occasion. Many of you know that this day had been a long time coming, and it would not be here without the impassioned support of all of you.

Appreciating Educators’ Civic Duty

Earlier in the month, Education Minnesota held a wonderful event to thank all of our teachers for exercising their civic duty. It brought together of two of my greatest passions, and I was so grateful to be given the opportunity to address the room. My speech can be found by clicking HERE.

Connecting Students with Legislators

This week included a great meeting with two students from Hopkins High School, Faith Agboola and Joe Ramlet, along with Catherine Callahan from the Hopkins Schools Legislative Action Coalition. Together, we began building a program to connect students with their legislators in the schools. We’re still in the early stages, so stay tuned!

Wishing for a Great Legislative Session

As one of Santa’s constituents, I was thrilled to sit down and lobby him on what I want for Christmas. My number one wish was for a productive legislative session where we can improve the lives of Minnesotans.

Have a great holiday season, and a happy new year!
