A group of faith leaders on Thursday condemned mailers sent out by Republican attorney general candidate Doug Wardlow as Islamophobic and intended to spread fear.

Wardlow’s fundraising mailers lambaste his Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, calling him “one of the most dangerous men in America” and saying he “pals around with radical Islamic groups and defends known terrorists.”

Wardlow’s mailers “are a significant departure from what America is all about. He has chosen to attack his opponent’s religion and he has chosen to attack religious institutions,” said Imam Asad Zaman, who spoke at a news conference along with two Lutheran pastors and a rabbi.

Are political firings business as usual in the Minnesota attorney general’s office?

The Republican candidate for Minnesota attorney general is recorded at a partisan fundraiser promising to “fire 42 Democrats right off the bat and get Republican attorneys in there.”

DFLers reacted quickly, not just because it might violate ethical standards and even state law, but because it dents the GOP candidate’s claim that he will run an office free of politics.

The Republican, Doug Wardlow, now argues that his words were taken out of context because he preceded them by saying he wants lawyers who follow “the rule of law.” Besides, he argues, DFL attorneys general have fired attorneys after taking office.

New Website Highlights Republicans’ Extreme Nominee for Minnesota Attorney General

Doug Wardlow wants to use the AG’s office to serve President Trump and big corporations, not Minnesota families

Wardlow has proudly worked for an anti-LGBTQ hate group, opposes the ACA and a woman’s right to choose

The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) today launched a new website to inform Minnesotans about the extreme Republican nominee for Attorney General, Doug Wardlow. Wardlow, a former one-term State Representative, has vowed to use the Attorney General’s office to serve President Trump’s agenda, from overturning the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade to suppressing voting rights.

“Minnesotans have a clear choice in the election for Minnesota Attorney General,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “Congressman Ellison has dedicated his life to defending equal rights and greater opportunity for all Minnesotans, while Doug Wardlow has spent his career attacking the rights of LGBTQ people, women, and workers. We need someone in the Attorney General’s Office who will stand up for working families, not work for President Trump and big corporations.”

The new website, RealDougWardlow.com, and accompanying Facebook & Twitter pages, will highlight Wardlow’s commitment to politicizing the Office of Attorney General to serve President Trump, and his work for an anti-LGBTQ hate group.

During his one term in the Minnesota House, Wardlow worked to block and overturn the Affordable Care Act, and pushed extreme anti-labor legislation against the will of his own party. Learn more about Wardlow at RealDougWardlow.com.
