Dear Neighbors,
Fall has definitely arrived in Minnesota! The Minnesota DNR has a number of resources to help you enjoy the season, including a weekly fall colors update newsletter. You can learn more here.
Another fall staple is apple picking, and Minnesota’s apple harvest is in full swing! Minnesota-grown apples are available now at apple orchards and can be found at local grocery stores and farmers markets throughout the fall. A trip to the orchard is a great way to get the family outside and help kids understand how their food grows. Apple orchards are also a family-fun destination with some also featuring pumpkins, squash, corn mazes, wagon rides, and petting zoos.
The Minnesota Grown Directory is available in print and online, and is a great resource for finding local apple orchards or farmers markets.
Minnesota Values Project
In 2017, the Minnesota House DFL started the Minnesota Values Project (MVP) — a partnership between Minnesotans, elected officials and organizations to create a shared vision for the future of our state. Working together, we can strengthen our communities by improving education opportunities, making affordable health care a reality, and increasing economic prosperity for all Minnesotans.
Through MVP, we have facilitated hundreds of meaningful conversations with people across all Minnesota about their priorities. We’re continuing this work and want to engage with as many Minnesotans as possible.
Please share your thoughts and vision for the state of Minnesota: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/mnValues2019
Thank you!
The Minnesota House of Representatives spent October 2nd-4th in southeastern Minnesota for our first Mini-Session in 22 years. In addition to welcoming Minnesotans to participate at the State Capitol in St. Paul, the Legislature should go out into communities across the state. This year we held more than 10 House committee field hearings during session and are continuing to hold community conversations across the state. The Mini-Session is a continuation of our effort to make the Legislature more accessible and responsive to Minnesotans. In addition, bipartisanship is enhanced when Democrats and Republicans learn together.
We had a packed agenda with events, tours, and public hearings. Thank you to our wonderful hosts in Rochester, Austin, and Winona; and thank you to everyone who participated!
Among our many Mini-Session events was a public conversation on vocational training and bridges to post-secondary educational opportunities.
As always, please contact me anytime with your input. I appreciate hearing from you! You can reach me at 651-296-4280 or rep.melissa.hortman@house.mn. You can also keep up with what’s happening at the Capitol by liking my legislative Facebook page. Thank you.
