Rep. Melissa Hortman (HD36B) Update: April 10, 2018

Rep. Melissa Hortman (36B) – Legislative Update

Dear Neighbor,

The Legislature spent the last several days on break from official business to observe Easter and Passover. Now, we are reconvening for the final six weeks of the legislative session.

Protecting Pre-K for Thousands of Kids

I’m joining Governor Dayton to advocate for continued funding for pre-K programs which are in jeopardy of being eliminated for 4000 students at more than 59 school districts and charter schools across the state, including the Osseo and Anoka-Hennepin school districts. If nothing is done this year, these educational opportunities for thousands of kids across Minnesota will be eliminated. I am hopeful that a bipartisan compromise can be reached this session to continue funding for pre-K.

Minnesota Values Project

House DFLers recently unveiled the Minnesota Values Project, an initiative of the Minnesota House DFL to engage legislators, Minnesotans, and community groups in a conversation about the future of our state. Over the last nine months, we traveled the state to listen to Minnesotans and have conversations about our shared values.

The priorities we heard the most from Minnesotans weren’t surprising — they’d like lawmakers to make affordable health care a reality, ensure every child in every community has access to an excellent education, provide the education and job-training people need to get good-paying jobs, and ensure all Minnesotans can have the opportunity to be safe, healthy, and successful.

These are the priorities I’ll keep working on at the Capitol. Learn more and add your voice here:
