Rep. Linda Slocum (50A) – Legislative Update
With three weeks left in the legislative session, there is plenty left on our plate. We have yet to see a bonding bill to fund public infrastructure improvements from the Republican majority. We also have yet to debate and vote on several large pieces of omnibus legislation. Here are the latest updates from the Capitol:
E-12 and Higher Education Omnibus Bill
Last week, the House passed the E-12 and Higher Education Omnibus Bill. Unfortunately, this bill failed to continue voluntary Pre-K programs and underfunded our public universities.
All Minnesota kids deserve a world-class education and the opportunity to succeed. I will continue to advocate for learners of all ages in our community.
Common Sense Safety
Reasonable actions on gun safety have been blocked for this session, meaning no progress will be made on an issue that is so important to our communities. I’m disappointed the Republican majority stalled these efforts multiple times, especially because a majority of Minnesotans support common sense legislation.
Last Tuesday, students and gun safety advocates took to the Capitol steps for a rally. Republican lawmakers should be listening to their constituents as they call for expanded background checks and extreme risk protection orders.
As always, please continue to reach out with your thoughts and concerns as we approach the end of the 2018 session.
Sincerely,
Linda Slocum
State Representative
