Rep. Laurie Pryor (HD48A) Update: July 16, 2020

Neighbors,

Thank you to everyone who completed my summer survey. I appreciate your input on issues impacting Minnetonka, Eden Prairie and our entire state. The survey reinforced what we already know about our communities – we care about each other and want to help one another succeed. You can view the results by clicking here.

Special Session

Gov. Walz called legislators back into special session beginning Monday, July 13. In order to continue to take quick action during COVID-19, the governor has extended the current peacetime emergency for another 30 days. During the last 4 months, we have demonstrated our commitment to one another. I support the governor’s actions because now is not the time to let our guard down, especially when this pandemic shows no signs of slowing down.

During this special session, we are continuing talks to enact strong police accountability measures, pass a local jobs and projects bill and continue to assess and respond to COVID-19 related events to keep each other safe.

Racism a public health crisis

On Tuesday, the Minnesota House Rules Committee passed a resolution declaring racism a public health crisis. You can read the resolution here. A final vote on the measure will likely be before the full House on Monday.

_______________

Everyone can work to reduce the spread of COVID-19

  • Wear masks when in public. 10-50% of virus carriers are asymptomatic (are not experiencing any sysmptoms). Wearing masks helps control the virus and has been shown to lower COVID-19 spread.
  • Avoid enclosed spaces with groups of people, where the virus can linger in the air for long periods of time.
  • Get tested if you have cold or flu-like symptoms – Find testing locations.
  • Stay six feet away from others.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or sleeve, or a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands afterwards.
  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom or before eating. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your face – especially your eyes, nose and mouth – with unwashed hands.
  • Up-to-date guidance is available from the Department of Health.

Final update until after the election

During an election period, legislators cannot use state resources for unsolicited communications because it might create an unfair advantage, so this is my last weekly update until after the election. I am still available to help with the state-level problems and to discuss important issues in our community.

Also a reminder that you can keep up with the legislature on the House of Representatives webpage and  YouTube page.

Please continue to reach out with any input, ideas, or feedback about the issues important to you. I value hearing from you, so please don’t hesitate to call me at (651) 296-3964 or email me any time at rep.laurie.pryor@house.mn. You can also connect with me on Facebook here. It’s an honor to represent you at the State Capitol.

Sincerely,

Laurie Pryor
