Dear Neighbors,
I want to thank everyone who attended our recent Be Heard on Cannabis Community Conversation in Eden Prairie. It was a productive discussion featuring officials from the state of Colorado who had lessons to share about that state’s approach to cannabis, and community members offered some reasons why this discussion is deeply personal to them. The Sun Sailor has an excellent recap of the event here.
Recently, I was honored by the Minnesota School Boards Association as a Legislator of Distinction for 2019. I’m grateful for this recognition and I look forward to continued partnership with our local education leaders to ensure we meet the needs of all of our students.
Last week I had the opportunity to join Sen. Steve Cwodzinski in welcoming a group of sixth-graders from Gatewood Elementary in Minnetonka to the State Capitol. It’s always exciting when groups of interested, enthusiastic students visit “the People’s House” and bring thoughtful, interesting questions. Visits like these also bring to light the key importance of the work we do in Saint Paul, namely, ensuring a strong future for our state’s young people.
Civics 101 Town Hall
Tomorrow night, December 4, you’re invited to join Rep. Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn, Sen. Cwodzinski, and me for a “Civics 101 Town Hall” at Eden Prairie High School. We will be joined by a very special guest, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, who is Minnesota’s chief elections official who has a tremendous amount of insight into our elections system. With 2020 on the horizon, this will be a fascinating discussion about topics like the new state presidential primary, election security, the 2020 census, and more. Secretary Simon previously served in the Minnesota House of Representatives, chairing the House Elections Committee, and in his position has been on the front lines to protect our elections against foreign interference and hacking.
We will meet in the High School’s East Commons from 6:30-8 p.m. The event is free and everyone is welcome. I hope you can join us.
