Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: March 20, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

This week, Governor Walz ordered the temporary closure of bars, restaurants, and most other gathering places. Many Minnesotans – workers and business owners alike – are experiencing a deep and sudden financial hardship as a result of these closures. To address these, the Governor issued an executive order to provide for immediate payment of unemployment insurance benefits. To apply for Unemployment Insurance, visit http://www.uimn.org

Yesterday, Gov. Walz announced that businesses will have a one-month interest and penalty-free grace period on the deadline to file sales taxes, which will help alleviate financial strain businesses are facing from COVID-19. Our small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and community. If you’re a small business owner, or know someone who is an employer, please review and share the resources below from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development:

Taking Care of Our Mental Health During COVID-19

Wednesday night, I was a guest on TPT’s Almanac at the Capitol. You’ll notice I’m six feet away from the host as we spoke.

We focused on the mental health aspects of COVID-19 and how we can take care of ourselves during this challenging time. You can check out the segment here.

Be sure to take care of yourself during this unprecedented time.

  • Call friends and family daily – having personal connections with others will help reduce anxiety.
  • Eat healthy foods and do your best to maintain a routine. This is especially true if you have children – they operate best with expectations and some structure.
  • Drink lots of water and go for walks outside.

We will get through this together.
