Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: March 12, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

As the confirmed cases of COVID-19 grow, I’ve asked a couple physicians from Edina to share helpful and practical tips to protect yourself and those around you.

Here is their public service announcement:

As Edina Residents and Emergency Physicians in the community, we are asking for your help to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Protect Yourself:

  1.  Wash your hands frequently
  2.  Practice social distancing, stand at least 6 feet from other people
  3. Stay away from large events like concerts and sporting events
  4. Try not to touch your face – it’s harder than you think
  5. Disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as door knobs, light switches and especially your cell phone

Protect Others:

  1. If you feel sick, isolate yourself from other people.
  2. Wear a mask to cover your cough (masks don’t prevent you from getting the virus but do decrease the spread of the virus)
  3. If you don’t need urgent medical care, stay home, this decreases your risk of getting the virus and if you have it, your risk of spreading it.
  4. If you are concerned you have the COVID-19 virus, take advantage of telemedicine options. There are several drive thru options for testing around the Twin Cities and more are opening daily.
  5. If you are tested, quarantine yourself from your family and pets until your healthcare provider or the Department of Health clears you.  Even if your test is negative, you may be asked to continue to quarantine yourself.  If you are positive you will be contacted by the testing center with a plan to take care of yourself.

Do you have flu symptoms and are concerned you may have COVID-19? Consider using drive-up testing to reduce exposure. You can find more information here.

Minnesota House’s Coronavirus Preparedness Legislation Package

Yesterday, the Minnesota House Majority introduced a package of legislation to help ensure Minnesota is prepared to respond to COVID-19. Components of our plan include strategies for health plans and testing, employers and employees, schools, banning price gouging of goods and services, and more. You can find more details of our proposal here.

Earlier this week I sent around the Minnesota Department of Health public hotline number that’s open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The hotline number is 651-201-3920.

I’ll keep you posted as I learn more information from the Minnesota Department of Health, the Legislature and the Governor’s office.

Sincerely,

Heather Edelson
