Dear Neighbors,
It’s always a treat to meet with Edina residents visiting the Capitol and advocating for positive change on an issue they are passionate about. I recently had the opportunity to chat with future leaders from the Edina Girl Scouts, pharmacy students, and our Fire Chief, Tom Schmitz.
Taking Action on Climate Change
Since many of you attended or expressed interest in our community conversation on climate change with Paul Douglas in September, I’d like to give an update on the House proposals recently announced to address climate change by me and my colleagues, youth, and various stakeholders. Our bold package is inspired by what we have heard from our communities statewide and the investments we’re proposing will enable Minnesotans to participate directly in solutions that address the climate crisis.
Gun Violence Prevention
We are long overdue to take action to put an end to America’s epidemic of senseless gun violence and mass shootings. Last session I coauthored legislation that passed the House which would expand criminal background checks on all gun sales and establish extreme risk protection orders. I plan to push for this legislation again this session. Our community members deserve to be safe at school, work, their place of worship, or any other public space. It’s time for the Senate to follow the House’s lead and pass this legislation which would make all of Minnesota a safer place to live. I will support these bills and will vote to approve them when they come to the House Floor.
