Rep. Heather Edelson (HD49A) Update: April 17, 2020

Dear Neighbors,

Today, the Governor issued an executive order to reopen outdoor activities tomorrow like access to parks, boating, and golf. Minnesotans are known for our love of the outdoor recreation, so this was welcome news.

The changes will allow Minnesotans to continue to enjoy the outdoors close to home, while following social distancing guidelines.

Under this executive action, facilities that may reopen or remain open include:

  • Public and private parks and trails
  • Golf courses and driving ranges
  • Bait shops for live bait
  • Boating and off-highway vehicle services, including:
    • Marina services
    • Dock installation and other lake services
    • Boat and off-highway vehicle sales and repair, by appointment only
  • Outdoor shooting ranges and game farms

Many residents are wondering what our path forward is. When will our state reopen? I want to reassure you that we are working hard to for our small businesses and other workers. As we make plans to do so – safety and science must be at the forefront of guiding our decisions so we don’t jeopardize our progress.

House passes bill to allow takeout beer and wine

Today, the Minnesota House of Representatives passed legislation to allow takeout sales of beer and wine from bars and restaurants with curbside food pick-ups during the COVID-19 pandemic. This by no means is a fix-all solution, but will help bring in some additional revenues to our local Edina restaurants and bars who are struggling.

The legislation allows bars and restaurants with liquor licenses to sell up to 72 ounces – the equivalent of one six-pack – of beer, cider or hard seltzer and up to 750 milliliters of wine – the equivalent of one bottle – with food orders. The alcoholic beverages must be sold in their original, unopened containers.
