Rep. Erin Keogel (HD37A) Update: April 9, 2020

Neighbors,

On Wednesday, Gov. Walz extended the Stay at Home executive order until May 4. He presented evidence that our current strategy is working, and lives are being saved. You can read about this and all Executive Orders signed by Gov. Walz here.

Visit https://mn.gov/covid19/faq for answers to frequently asked questions about what this could mean for you, your business, and your family.

Protecting our first responders

This week, the House met in a remote floor session to pass legislation giving first responders workers’ compensation should they contract COVID-19 while working. You can read my statement on passage of the bill, which Gov. Walz has signed into law. First responders are always there for us and I’m glad we passed legislation to support them.

Remote committees

On Wednesday, several committees met remotely to discuss mostly COVID-19 related measures. The Government Operations committee met to discuss a bill I’ve chief authored, HF 4507, to modify the interactive television attendance requirements for the open meeting law. You can read the news release here with more details and information. Other committees that met remotely this week were Education Policy, Taxes, Judiciary Finance & Civil Law, Transportation Finance & Policy, and the Subcommittee on Elections.

Governor Walz delivers State of the State Address

Sunday evening, Governor Walz delivered his State of the State address to Minnesota via video from the Governor’s Residence. In his speech, Gov. Walz spoke of the resiliency and optimism of Minnesotans in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Click here to read my statement.

A recording of the governor’s address is available here. A state COVID-19 dashboard of data and resources is available here.

Grants available for Veterans

Veterans financially impacted by COVID-19 may be eligible for grants from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA). If you are a veteran or know a veteran or a surviving spouse of a veteran who needs help, they can apply for a $1,000 grant. You can learn more here.
