Paulsen follows party lines, doesn’t stand up for what is right

To the Editor:

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…”

These are the words that lie in stone at the base of the Statue of Liberty. And on our southern border, the tired, poor and huddled gather, looking for a better life. Instead, they’re ripped from their families, insulted and demeaned by the president and kept in hellish conditions. And where is our representative, Erik Paulsen, during all this? Writing equivocating letters denying any culpability. His criticisms of President Donald Trump over the family separation policy have been weak at best, while his votes show no dedication to change. He’s voted against a bill that would protect undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, while pushing for bills made to be appealing to the far right.

I want a congressman who’s brave enough to stand up for what’s right, no matter what his party tells him. It’s easy to tell that Paulsen is not that congressman.
