Rep. Kelly Morrison (HD33B) Update: March 5, 2021

Rep. Morrison Banner

Dear Neighbors,

Minnesota received positive news on the COVID-19 vaccine front this week: the pace of vaccination has picked up significantly, we’re on track to exceed the goal of vaccinating 70% of Minnesotans 65 and older by the end of the month, and as of Wednesday, the CDC ranked Minnesota 3rd among states for the percentage of doses received that have been administered. I’m optimistic that the arrival of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine in our state will only help quicken efforts to get as many shots into arms as possible.

To date, 975,781 Minnesotans have received a first dose of the vaccine, with 516,422 completing the series.

Survey

Hearing from and engaging with community members is the most important part of public service. I hope you’ll take a moment to share your input with me on various issues moving through the House by taking my 2021 legislative survey. Questions vary from how you’ve been impacted by the pandemic to what your thoughts are on adult-use cannabis legalization. Thanks in advance for sharing your views!

Legislation Progress

Our work continues in the Minnesota Legislature. Over the past week, House and Senate committees have been working into the evening, carefully vetting, and reviewing legislation to help get our state on track post-pandemic. This year has been understandably challenging for our youth, and this week, I presented a few of my bills to support students and their healthy development. You can read more about them below:

MN Youth Council

This week, I presented my bill that would invest in the Minnesota Youth Council. Current and former MYC representatives Paula Akakpo, Ava Kalenze, Neese Parker, Weston Loughmiller, D’Andre Gordon and Bridget Westrum gave testimony that spoke to the importance of MYC to the Minnesota legislature and our state.

Protecting Early Childhood Develoapment

I presented my bill to limit individual screens for students in preschool and kindergarten in the Early Childhood Education Finance and Policy committee this week. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no screens before 18 months and no more than 1 hour per day for ages 2-5. Developing brains need free play and relational experiences, not solitary individual screens. Good Morning America covered my legislation last year, and you can read more here.

Community Spotlight

It was great to meet with constituent Rob Wudlick, who is living with a spinal cord injury himself and does a tremendous amount of work and advocacy on behalf of Minnesotans living with spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. He’s currently advocating for a bill that would maintain and strengthen the SCI/TBI research grant program. Thanks for all you do, Rob!

It was such an honor to present Randy Maluchnik with a House Resolution honoring his service to our community last night during the Carver County Veterans Council meeting tonight. He has served selflessly in so many different capacities: a veteran, an advocate for veterans and their families, and a dedicated and hard working Carver County Commissioner, to name just a few. Thank you for your service, Randy!

Rep. Michael Howard (HD50A) Update: March 5, 2021

Rep. Howard Banner

Dear Neighbors,

We’re getting a clearer picture of when more Minnesotans could expect to receive the COVID vaccine. Supply is still not meeting the great demand, but we’re currently on track to vaccinate 70% of Minnesotans age 65 and older by the end of this month. Once we meet that important milestone, we’ll begin the process of vaccinating those who are at a high risk for workplace exposure and people with certain underlying health conditions. In following the state’s vaccine timeline, all Minnesotans will have the opportunity to get vaccinated this summer.

MN Who Gets COVID Vaccine Soon

This week’s news on the approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine means the date of a vaccine for the general public might even be sooner, with President Biden announcing that a new deal between drug manufacturers could lead to vaccines for all adults in the US by May. If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for Minnesota’s Vaccine Connector, which will help you find out when, where, and how to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Vaccinations Ramp Up As Third Vaccine Arrives in Minnesota

Roll Up Your Sleeves MN Image

On March 3rd, the first Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine doses arrived in Minnesota. It is exciting and reassuring that we will now have a third vaccine that is highly effective in keeping Minnesotans safe. This new vaccine is only a single-dose and does not require cold-storage, so we can likely get it deployed much quicker.

Our state is already a leader in vaccination, ranking 3rd among states for the percentage of doses received that have been administered. I am hopeful that we can achieve herd immunity and end this pandemic even sooner than expected. Precautionary safety measures such as wearing a mask and social distancing are still necessary, but the end is in sight.

If you have not already, get signed up with Minnesota’s Vaccine Connector by clicking HERE, to get notified on when a vaccination is available for you.

Rep. Stephenson Banner

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you had a nice week.

Our state received more positive news on the COVID-19 vaccine front this week with the arrival of 45,200 doses of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine. I’m grateful we’re seeing this significant development and it makes me hopeful we’re approaching the end of the pandemic. If you haven’t done so yet, I encourage you to sign up for Minnesota’s Vaccine Connector, which will notify you when you’re eligible and connect you with vaccination opportunities.

The pace of vaccination continues to speed up. Minnesota now ranks third in the nation for vaccination! In addition, 58% of Minnesotans over the age of 65 have received at least their first dose. I am pleased with this progress, but will continue to push for fast action.

Rep. Edelson Banner

Dear Neighbors,

Minnesota has made hard-fought progress to overcome COVID-19. Cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are all trending downward, and our vaccination process is improving as the vaccine supply increases.

As of Tuesday, March 2nd, 948,127 Minnesotans have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 500,188 have completed the series.

Minnesota is already a national leader in getting shots into arms. As of Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control ranks Minnesota 3rd among states for the percentage of doses received that have been administered.

Rep. Erin Koegel (HD37A) Update: March 5, 2021

Dear Neighbors,

As session progresses I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on the most pressing issues we are working on at the Capitol. Please complete this survey to help me understand where you feel I should focus my efforts for the rest of session.

Several of my bills are continuing to move through the process. One of particular note, HF 648, had a hearing in the State Government committee this week This bill would stop health plans from limiting the amount of screenings and tests for opioids. We shouldn’t force those in recovery and their loved ones to bear the costs of these tests.

Virtual Town Hall

Sen. Jerry Newton and I are holding a virtual town hall on Tuesday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. We hope you’ll join us to discuss your ideas and priorities for the legislative session. The town hall will be held on Zoom. If you would like to participate in the Zoom portion, click here to RSVP and to submit a question.
