In First Debate, Erik Paulsen Can’t Do the Math

“For a so-called ‘math guy,’ Rep. Erik Paulsen clearly doesn’t get that his votes add up in Washington. We’re happy to do the math for him: Paulsen votes with President Trump 98 percent of the time, while being the 6th highest recipient of special interest money in Congress. Those numbers won’t help his chances in November. ” – DCCC spokesperson Rachel Irwin

Here’s a fact check of Paulsen’s claims:

Paulsen Claim: “I’m in the top ten percent of those who don’t vote with my party.”

Reality: In his career, Paulsen has voted with the Republican Party 93% of the time, and in the 115th Congress, Paulsen has voted 96% of the time with Paul Ryan. He votes with President Trump 98 percent of the time in D.C.

Paulsen Claim: “80% of the benefits don’t go to corporations or those only in the higher one percent, that’s actually not true.”

Reality: The Republican tax scam gives 83% of the benefits to the top 1 percent.

Paulsen Claim: “Well, the legislation that we passed (AHCA) just about a year ago, actually had a 20 percent score for reducing premiums.”

Reality: Erik Paulsen and the GOP’s health care sabotage hikes premiums by 15%.

Paulsen Claim: “[Phillips] mentions that I’m number six [highest recipient of PAC money], I don’t know where you get that number from.”

Reality: Paulsen has accepted more than $2 million from PACs, the 6th highest recipient of PAC money this cycle.

Paulsen Claim: “The truth is I get a lot of ideas from listening to people like you. Being accessible, being a good listener, those are where the ideas come from.”

Reality: Just listen to the crowd’s response!
