On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was gunned down at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. This Tuesday Americans across the country mourned his loss and honored his legacy.
“On this solemn anniversary, we honor the activism, morality, and persistence of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin “His life may have come to a tragic end 50 years ago today, but his legacy lives on.”
“It lives on in the teachers flooding State Capitols this week demanding fair wages. It lives on in immigrants across our nation rising up and refusing to stay in the shadows. It lives on in Dr. King’s nine-year-old granddaughter who joined hands with Parkland survivors during their own march on Washington and exclaimed, ‘I have a dream that enough is enough.'”
“It is our duty and our honor as Americans to carry on this legacy. It’s no coincidence that Dr. King’s last campaign was for workers’ rights.” Martin continued “He understood that equality and economic opportunity are inextricably intertwined. Together, we must continue his crusade by fighting for every American’s right to build a better future for their family.”
