Guide to 2018 Conservative Dark Money

When you see ads slamming Democratic candidates and painting a bleak picture of the future (fear is the only thing they seem to have to sell people), here’s a list so you know where they’re really coming from:

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) — This conservative/libertarian organization is funded by the billionaire Koch brothers (David and Charles). It was a major force in creating the tea party movement as an “astroturf” organization (fake grassroots).  They’ve had offices in our area, have hired field staff and are doing mailings in addition to television ads.

Conservative Leadership Fund (CLF) — This PAC is affiliated with Paul Ryan. It’s sole purpose is to help maintain and expand the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. It’s chair is Fred Malek, founder of Thayer Lodging.  He works with Republican political organizations and is also Chair of American Action Forum.  It’s board includes Mason Fink (Right to Rise PAC).  One of it’s largest donors is Sheldon Adelson and his wife and Steven Schwarzman, CEO and Chair of The Blackstone Group.

Future45 — This is a Trump oriented “independent organization devoted to educating voters about the challenges facing our country”.  It started as an anti-Hillary Clinton organization.  It doesn’t have to disclose its donors.  The sales pitch to donors know is that it provides a secret way for people to donate to support Donald Trump and his agenda.
