DFL Party Chairman Ken Martin released the following statement:
“I am extremely excited to announce that Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer will be the keynote speaker at the 2021 DFL Party Founders Day Dinner. Governor Whitmer has been a proven fighter for the needs of her state, where she brokered an increase to Michigan’s minimum wage and expanded health coverage to 680,000 Michiganders. Since COVID-19 hit, Governor Whitmer has faced down far-right, anti-government extremists in order to take the necessary steps to protect the health and safety of the people of Michigan.
“Governor Whitmer’s courage, leadership, and determination to do what’s right in the face of intense opposition are an inspiration in these trying times, and I look forward to hearing from her soon.
“This Founders Day Dinner is especially significant because it will take place on April 15th, the 77th anniversary of the founding of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. Since its inception, our party has worked tirelessly to expand opportunity, pursue justice, and raise the standard of living for people across our state. There is so much to celebrate about the past, present, and future of the DFL Party and I cannot wait to do just that in a few short weeks.”
