Governor Walz Hears from Minnesotans Impacted by COVID-19
On Wednesday, Governor Walz facilitated a socially-distanced roundtable discussion with physicians, public health professionals, and Minnesotans impacted by COVID-19 to discuss the virus’s impact on Minnesota and steps people can take to protect themselves and their loved ones.
Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Announce State Investment in Mental Health Resources Amid COVID-19
Thursday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced a $3 million investment in mental health services for children and families during the COVID-19 pandemic. The $3 million investment will be funded through the CARES Act.
Lieutenant Governor Flanagan also visited St. David’s Center to highlight the Walz-Flanagan Administration’s commitment to prioritizing mental health for children and families during Mental Illness Awareness Week.

Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, and the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota Invite Young Women to Apply for Young Women’s Initiative of Minnesota
Governor Walz, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, and the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota invite young women from across the state to apply for 18 open positions with the Young Women’s Cabinet of the Young Women’s Initiative of Minnesota. Women between the ages of 16 and 24, especially from underrepresented communities, are invited to apply. Applications are available through the Office of the Governor and Lt. Governor and will be accepted through Monday, November 2, 2020.
“The Young Women’s Initiative lifts up our future generation – especially those from underrepresented communities – by centering their powerful voices, stories, and ideas,” said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.
State Announces Locations for No-Barrier Access to COVID-19 Testing During Week of Oct. 12
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is partnering with local public health officials and other community partners to offer access to free, no-barrier COVID-19 testing the week of Oct. 12 in Anoka, Faribault, Luverne, Alexandria, Aitkin, and St. Cloud.
As always with no-barrier testing opportunities, this testing will be free, available to anyone who wants to be tested whether they have symptoms or not, and will not require insurance. The seven events next week are part of an effort to increase access to “no-barrier” COVID-19 testing following increased levels of community spread statewide. The Minnesota National Guard will continue providing logistical support for a number of these events.
Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Continues Statewide Small Business Listening Tour, Highlights Support for Minnesota Businesses
Today, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan continued a statewide small business listening tour at India Spice House in Eden Prairie, Little Thistle Brewing in Rochester, and Nettle Valley Farm in Spring Grove. In the coming weeks, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor will visit small businesses and farms across the state, hear from owners and workers how COVID-19 has affected them, and highlight support the state has provided to businesses during the pandemic.
