As a part of the broader statewide ‘Roll Up Your Sleeves, MN’ campaign to make sure all Minnesotans have access to the COVID-19 vaccine,  Governor Walz launched an outreach effort focused on connecting workers in critical industries to the resources they need to get vaccinated. In the coming weeks, workers in priority frontline sectors will be vaccinated at community vaccination sites.

The campaign kicked off its first week with workers in the food service industry. To drive food service workers to register in the COVID-19 Vaccine Connector and get vaccinated, the state partnered with industry leaders, employers, and influential restaurateurs and chefs across Minnesota – including Chef Andrew Zimmern.

The milestone comes exactly three weeks after the state announced two million doses administered on March 18. The state announced the first million doses administered on February 19.

Minnesota continues to lead the nation in doses administered and has also steadily moved into the top ten states for people with complete series administered per 100,000.

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan Receives Second Vaccine Dose

Lt. Flanagan Received 2nd Dose

On Monday, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan received her second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine through White Earth Nation’s urban office.

“When I received my second dose of the Moderna vaccine at the White Earth Urban Office, I held my brother Ron’s pocket watch to honor his memory and all those we have lost to COVID-19. As we see more and more Minnesotans getting vaccinated, we are getting closer and closer to ending the pandemic. White Earth has done a tremendous job vaccinating folks from the tribe, but also from across the region and surrounding communities,” said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. “We are trying to remove as many barriers as possible so that every Minnesotan can access the vaccine. Through our partnerships with community, the Vaccine Connector – now translated into Spanish, Somali, and Hmong – and the new FEMA vaccination site at the State Fair grounds, we are getting closer and closer to reaching every Minnesotan.”

The site will be located at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds and receive 168,000 doses over eight weeks. The site will administer a combination of Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson doses, which will result in over 100,000 total people being vaccinated during the eight-week period.

Minnesotans living in the zip codes near the Fairgrounds with the highest scores on the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index will be eligible for appointments at this site.

Governor Walz Highlights Biofuels Infrastructure Budget Proposal to Strengthen Small Businesses, Support Farmers, and Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Gov. Walz at Biofuels Event

On Thursday, Governor Walz and supporters of Minnesota’s biofuels industry urged the passage of the Governor’s Biofuels Infrastructure Grant Program budget proposal in order to strengthen small businesses, support farmers, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Governor Walz highlighted the proposal at Holiday Stationstore #3829 in New Hope. Owner Chris Robbins received a state grant enabling him to upgrade his facility to offer E15, E30, and E85 fuels.

“Biofuels are critical to Minnesota, not just for helping us meet our climate goals, but to our agricultural and rural economies and the state’s economy as a whole. However, many gas stations don’t have the tanks, pumps, and other equipment needed to safely dispense E15 to consumers,” said Governor Walz. “The biofuels infrastructure grants would help retailers make these upgrades, and in doing so, these grants support our farmers and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across Minnesota.”

“E15 has been a huge success for our location,” said Robbins. “It is cheaper for consumers, it supports a home-grown, renewable resource and our Minnesota economy, it reduces our dependence on foreign oil, and it reduces harmful greenhouse gases.”
