DFL to Launch Day of Action During Trump Visit

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – In response to Donald Trump’s visit to Minneapolis on October 10th, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party is announcing a DFL Day of Action during Trump’s visit to Minnesota, focused on winning local elections in 2019 and preparing the party to win again in 2020.

Ken Martin, Chairman of the Minnesota DFL, released the following statement:

“Local elections are taking place across Minnesota in less than a month. President Trump’s visit to Minneapolis will not distract the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party from our main objective: winning elections up and down the ballot in 2019 and 2020. Stacey Abrams to Headline DFL Founders Day Dinner

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Today, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) announced that Stacey Abrams, the former Georgia House Democratic Leader and founder and chair of Fair Fight, will be headlining the Party’s December 6th Founders Day Dinner.

“It is an honor to be rallying Democrats in Minnesota, a crucial battleground state in the nation and a state with a proud Democratic legacy of fighting to make the ballot box accessible to all,” said Stacey Abrams. “My Fair Fight 2020 initiative includes Minnesota because the stakes are high in the upcoming election, and a Democrat needs to win Minnesota to win the White House. Minnesotans’ access to good health care, strong public schools and economic security depends on DFLers winning big. I look forward to joining the DFL and Chairman Ken Martin for their Founders Day Dinner and working with the party to keep Minnesota blue in 2020.”

“Stacey Abrams is an invaluable leader in the fight to end voter suppression and ensure a fair and accurate census,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “I really admire Abrams’ dedication to making our government more responsive to and representative of the American people, and I am thrilled she will be headlining our Founders Day Dinner.” Continue reading “Stacey Abrams to Headline DFL Founders Day Dinner”

Minnesota DFL Sees Record-Breaking Enthusiasm at State Fair

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA — This year, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party saw tremendous enthusiasm from attendees of the Minnesota State Fair. It’s clear the momentum that propelled DFLers to sweep every statewide office in 2018 is as strong as ever.

“I’m thrilled to report that Minnesotans showed up in record numbers to support the DFL at the Great Minnesota Get-Together,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “Our party recruited thousands of volunteers, registered hundreds of voters, and sold more merchandise than ever before. The people of Minnesota are ready to send Donald Trump packing and elect DFLers who will protect our health care and build an economy that works for everyone.”

Signs of DFL Enthusiasm at the Minnesota State Fair:

Strong Volunteer Recruitment Numbers: The DFL’s impressive showing at the Minnesota State Fair didn’t stop at merchandise sales and straw poll participation. Over 4,400 Fair-goers signed up to volunteer for DFL candidates in the upcoming election cycle. Additionally, the Minnesota DFL had over 120 people sign up to volunteer at the DFL booth, where they helped register hundreds of voters and recruit thousands of volunteers. DFL to Hold ‘Bean Ballot’ Presidential Straw Poll at State Fair

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – This year at the Minnesota State Fair, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party booth will feature a ‘bean ballot’ presidential straw poll where Minnesotans can use Minnesota-grown soybeans to vote for their favorite Democratic presidential primary candidate.

“We have the most diverse field of candidates ever assembled running for the Democratic Presidential nomination which has led to record enthusiasm from people throughout Minnesota,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “As the unofficial kick-off to the political season, I am excited that Minnesotans will be able to indicate their preference by casting a presidential primary bean ballot at the DFL’s State Fair booth.”

The soybeans which will be used to cast votes in the DFL’s bean ballot straw poll were donated to the Minnesota DFL by Tim Velde, a farmer from Hanley Falls and member of the Minnesota Farmers Union.

“The DFL is using Minnesota-grown soybeans for our presidential straw poll to stand in solidarity with the farmers across our state who are suffering due to Trump’s disastrous trade war,” added Martin. “Soybean farmers are the backbone of Minnesota’s agricultural economy, and soybean exports have taken a massive hit as a result of President Trump’s horrible trade policies. The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party will always be a voice for Minnesota farmers, and right now our farmers deserve better than what they are getting from Trump.”

DFL Statement on Social Security’s 84th Birthday

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA — Today, DFL Chairman Ken Martin issued the following statement to commemorate the 84th anniversary of President Roosevelt signing the Social Security Act into law:

“If you work hard and play by the rules, you should be able to retire with dignity. For 84 years, Social Security has been the guarantor of financial stability and security for hard-working American families. Today, we’re proud to celebrate the accomplishments of this terrific program.

“Unfortunately for our country, Republicans do not share our respect for Social Security and the promise it offers Americans.

“During the 2016 election, Donald Trump promised Americans he would not cut our Social Security. Meanwhile, Trump was privately telling Paul Ryan he supported Social Security cuts, but did not want to admit that during a political campaign. Sure enough, after Trump got elected, he broke his promise to the American people and proposed a $26 billion cut to Social Security in his 2020 budget.

“Donald Trump’s strategy of saying anything to get elected will not work in 2020. After almost three disastrous years in office, Trump has built up a record of attacks on Minnesotans: on our farmers, our health care, and our social security. Enough is enough.

“On this, the 84th anniversary of Social Security, I urge Minnesota voters who share my belief in the right to retire with dignity and security to reject Donald Trump and his Republican Party in 2020.”

DFL Staff Embarks on Statewide Training Tour

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Last week, DFL staff set out on the first leg of the party’s statewide, 8 stop training tour across Greater Minnesota, which will extend through mid-August.

“The DFL’s statewide training roadshow will capitalize on the tremendous excitement we’re seeing among our voters and volunteers,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “There are no more off-years anymore. Our statewide training tour will focus on equipping our grassroots activists with the skills they need to start organizing for the 2020 elections right now.”

The DFL’s training tour will feature sessions in Mankato, Marshall, St. Cloud, Duluth, Bemidji, Moorhead, Golden Valley, and Northfield. The training sessions will focus on building organizing skills such as volunteer recruitment and using one’s personal story to persuade and motivate others. This tour is an extension of the DFL’s 2019 Training Summit which, on June 8th, brought together hundreds of activists from across Minnesota for a day-long training on organizing, communications, political data, and much more. DFL Statement on the Anniversary of the GOP’s Senate Health Care Vote

SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA – Two years ago today, the Senate rejected Trump’s health care bill that would have spiked costs and jeopardized coverage for Minnesotans with preexisting conditions. Ken Martin, Chairman of the Minnesota DFL, issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s relentless effort to strip Minnesotans of their health care and spike their costs is not only irresponsible, it’s cruel. Their efforts haven’t stopped either: after failing to get their way in Congress, Trump and his allies are trying to use the courts to continue their sabotage of our health care system.

“Democrats are working to defend and expand Americans’ access to health care. We know that it’s unacceptable for families to be forced to choose between food on the table and having access to the health care they need. The contrast between the parties on this issue is crystal clear and voters will hold Trump and the GOP accountable in 2020.”

Minnesotans don’t owe Trump a second term

Minnesotans don’t owe Trump a second term

President Donald Trump recently kicked off his re-election campaign with a rally in Florida. Much like the first few years of Trump’s presidency, his next campaign is likely to be highly contentious and controversial. Through all the scandal, the president and his defenders keep returning to one issue they see as key to securing Trump’s re-election: the economy. The truth is, Trump’s economic policies are doing real harm to people in Minnesota, especially those that are already struggling to make ends meet.

The president and his supporters often point to gains in the stock market as proof of a booming economy, but almost half of all Americans have no money invested in the stock market. Most Americans don’t have extra money to invest, while a recent study found that an unexpected expense of $500 would force about half the country into debt. Trump’s golf buddies and Mar-a-Lago members may benefit from stock market gains, but those gains mean little for the millions of Americans who have been left behind in Trump’s economy.
