An open letter to Paulsen

Dear Congressman Paulsen:

I so appreciate your recent Facebook post about the separation of children from parents at the border. Thank you for taking that stance.

I’m writing today, June 19, about that and about a few other things. The news just came out saying that the U.S. is pulling out of the UN Human Rights Council. I assume it’s because the president can’t handle criticism, and they said that the policy of separating children from their parents was a crime against humanity. However, when we take that step out of the Human Rights Council, we are putting another nail into the coffin of our global standing.

Right now, I’m losing faith in the Congress to hold this man accountable. I need to know what you and your colleagues will do to prevent him from damaging our credibility in the world even further.

Reagan’s shining city is being so terribly tarnished, and it’s utterly breaking my heart to see Congress sitting on its hands out of fear that the president will hurt your chances this fall.

He acts like he’s counting on it.

I beg you to stand up against this administration and its white supremacist policies, intervene in his destruction of our relationships with our international allies, and help us regain some small modicum of trust that this democracy isn’t so easy to dismantle.
