Minnesota 3rd Congressional District Democratic Farmer Labor (DFL) is pleased to announce the following volunteer award recipients of this year’s Jackie awards. Their outstanding efforts to build and support the DFL will be acknowledged at CD3 DFL’s September 10 Jackie Stevenson dinner.
The 2017 Jackie Stevenson Award for Volunteer of the Year is Phyllis Richerson, Chair, SD44. Phyllis worked for years to develop awareness of the DFL party and values in Senate District 33 prior to redistricting. As CD3 secretary and now the current chair of Senate District 44, she’s bringing new ideas and energy to the DFL in Minnetonka and Plymouth. Phyllis is an amazing repository of wonderful ideas and suggestions to help other chairs build their districts and never fails to support others in their work. We are proud to work with Phyllis to make CD3 a bluer district every day.
The 2017 Rick Nelson Award for Volunteer Who Keeps the Trains Running on Time goes to Chris Thorp, Chair of the DFL State Constitution and ByLaws Committee. Chris worked tirelessly behind the scenes for years helping CD3, as well as multiple districts within our CD, with our constitution, constitutional questions, processes, procedures and chairing conventions. He is ever fair, calm and knowledgeable. We thank Chris for his dedication to ensuring our processes are fair to all.
The 2017 Sen. Linda Scheid Award for Legislator of the Year goes to Minority Leader Melissa Hortman. Rep. Hortman has led fellow legislators for years. Most recently, she helped Senate District chairs recruit candidates for State House races. She is a strong advocate for education and educational funding and serves as the DFL Lead on the Minnesota House of Representatives’ Rules and Legislative Administration Committee. We honor Rep. Hortman for her care and consideration of her constituents through constituent services and her leadership in the House Caucus.
Please join us as we honor these award winners on Sunday, September 11, 2017, at the Doubletree Hotel in Bloomington. Our keynote speaker will be Representative Ted Lieu of California. Tickets are available at our website or at www.jackiestevensondinner.com.
